Counter-Strike - toggleconsole ? 60 fps?
Hi,

first of all - I'm totally amazed that Valve supports Linux, I just installed it to try it out. Counter-Strike works good.

When I launch it with -console I also have a console. But when I enter a game the console disappears. I also bound a key to toggleconsole, but it has no effect. When I type toggleconsole , the console disappears. But it does not come back when I press the key I just bound :(

Any idea / do you have the same issue?

And : Is it possible to run it with more than 60 fps?

Hey, to access console in game, must pause it and press the " ` " key. Under escape.

To get ovr 60 FPS you need to disable vSync in Compiz Config Manager, and from your graphics driver settings. In order to help you more please post your System specs. :)

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, the console does not open, no matter what key I use or if I am in the pause-menu. That the "'" or "^" or """-Key does not work might be because I'm using german keyboard layout - however, under Windows it worked. And I also did bind it to "k" - does not help.

I'm totally new to linux (kind of, the last time I tried it was 10 years ago or sth. like that, and I wrote some shell scripts during my studies, but never really used it ^^), so I'm having a bit of a hard time. I'm currently looking where to find the Compiz Config Manager and my graphics driver settings ;)

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on this system :
Intel Core i7 2600
nVidia Geforce GTX 580
16 GB RAM
I forgot what exact Motherboard I got... MSI P8P67 LE if I remember correctly.

When I already got a linux geek here, maybe you also have a solution for this :
No matter what output device I select under my Sound settings, I can't get it to put the sound out of the back (=mainboard) port of my PC. Only the top port of my case works, but for 2 different audio devices (headset and analog output). HDMI out works as well. So currently I'm using the Workaround by passing it from HDMI to my TV to my Stereo. However, there might be a loss of Sound quality that I don't want to have.

Totally surprised for any GoldSrc game to come out so quicky.. even more because it's CS 1.6. Valve hasn't touched the game in years. I'm glad as hell.

But I also have the issue with fps being locked to the screen refresh rate. I'm pretty confident I have vsync/vblank off. It's unchecked in NVIDIA X Server Settings.

The answer is gl_vsync 0. It's 1 by default.

Awesome! In combination with disabling it in nvidia x server settings I now get constant 100 fps :) (Can't get above 100, but that's fine, although I would want to see what is possible. And yes, fps_max is set to 500)

You can get over 100fps by setting 'developer' to 1. But it's commonly NOT used in multiplayer because it kind of breaks the physics. Or at least it used to break them.

Nice, I totally forgot about this ;) Didn't play 1.6 for too long... Okay, so I can get fps between about 200 and 500 (can't adjust fps_max without console in game -.-) However, I'll turn it back to 100 ;)

And yeah, fps and physics - I remember good old times whenI could run faster than others with my crappy laptop and 30 fps, but I couldn't climb this tiny wall next to the exit of the tunnel on de_dust2 xD Or walking up the wall at the ct-base on de_nuke also wasn't possible xD

Yeah, with lower fps's you get less speed penalty after jumping while running. With over 100fps you get more penalty. The physics have always depended on fps.

All this talk about Half-Life and CS reminds me that I have to recover my CD Keys. I once redemeed them in another account but lost username and password. Now redeeming them again doesn't work. Still got my 10 year old CD case fortunately might have to send them a photo with ID.

I'm surprised a bit that you "only" get 200-500 FPS. I have the same hardware and without a frame limiter I get over 1000 FPS in Quake 3.

CD keys are only usable once on one account. I don't think Valve will transfer your license over to your current account. If it's not obvious, it's to prevent someone from just putting a CD key on a forum post and saying "gl hf guiz."
You can buy CS1.6 and Half-Life for exrtremely cheap..
Half-Life I believe is 10$, CS1.6+Condition Zero+Condition Zero Deleted scenes is 10$ as well.

The fun part: 100fps lock is fixed now. You can get over 100fps without setting developer to 0. Still work to be done on the physics part.

That makes no sense. I get 300-400fps with fps_max 1000.
