Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

Suggestion / Idea.
i think it would be neat if steamed allowed us to install Windows based games for those of use who use Wine. i have no issues running most Steam games under Wine. like a method for Steam to detect Wine and allow Games like Skyrim to run. without needed to run Windows Steam under Wine.

I think everyone should just send waves of emails to developers to port or create native clients for GNU/Linux. If they want our money, they should support us.

That will never work. game configurations are too individual and not Valves business. Better start campaigns in the developers forumsfor porting their Games to Linux. And vote on Greenlight for Linux games.

Valve is only interested in running the client and its games natively.

If you want games that are exclusively for Windows, you can use a virtual machine. Or just dual boot, which would be the best solution.

If you really insist on running all your games in Linux, install Steam (windows version) and Play on Linux (or just default Wine). Steam can run within Wine, but it will have some performance issues.

No, it's a bad idea. And do a search next time before you post, this has already been discussed.

Would Valve serious support wine, it will be easier for publishers to take the wine route, and not give us native linux games.

Not again.... This is a horrible idea and has been discussed to death in countless of threads all going nowhere.

Agree. We need NATIVE software, not the help of Wine.

sweet jesus, don't you people ever do searches??????? there are dozens of threads on this topic alone. it has been discussed to death.

only reason i suggested this is 'cause for me steam on POL and or Wine doesn't like to run.
i was forced into doing something to run Skyrim without steam. it wouldn't be very hard to implant an option to download the games.. and when you go to play the game it'd issue a wine /gamedir/game.exe. it'd give a more native feel as well.
if took the time to "customize" steam and risk being banned for modifying steam i could pull this off my self. i know some people think it's really hard to do. but i am a cross platform developer for a few games and software. mind you my primary field is programming the engines and networking.

Please not again. This has been discussed millions of times already and is a popular question. Still it is a horrible idea, keep it native.
