Alternate Line Splitscreen (SS3 and others)
Would it be possible to implement an alternate line 'splitscreen' mode, in addition to left/right or top/bottom? E.g.

0001. Line 1 of Player1
0002. Line 1 of Player2
0003. Line 2 of Player1
0004. Line 2 of Player2
...
1079: Line 540 of Player1
1080: Line 540 of Player2

Sequences would remain unchanged (no split), as they are...

Using a alternate line passive 3d tv (quite common right now), and modified passive glasses (the realD ones thrown away in theaters), it would be possible for two players to play fullscreen on the same screen, while each player sees the own view only.

Might be wrong, but I think this 'mod' will become very common in future. Btw, it also voids the advantage of the WiiU secret tablet view :-)

If that's not an option, would it be possible to modify the aspect ratio of the splitscreen views? Then one could use the tv's 3d side-by-side setting, and still get a decent image.

This would not really work.

But if you use Nvidia 3d but instead of Masking 1 eye at a time and display 1 frame per eye.
You give half the frames to each player and activate the glasses of that player. No 3d effect, but each player would be able to see his picture properly on the same Tv.

And why exactly would that not work? Is it bias to owned SG? The stereo view is already implemented in proprietary GPU Linux drivers. The only problem is it is buried under unknown to me condiftions.

At least the LG TV has an option that already get half of the screen and puts in the left lens and right part of the screen and put in the right lens, and produce, with DualPlay glasses, fullscreen experience for both players in "splitscreen"

@Madrang, it does work!

Using the native resolution (e.g. 1920x1080) of the TV, you can easily send one picture on odd lines, the other one on even lines. By rendering a "left/right" splitscreen into a 3840x540 buffer, and then changing the size to 1920x1080 while keeping the buffer memory, you can get that output without loss of performance.
Using the Stereo 3D extension would also work of course, but it's not supported on Linux, except for Quadro cards.

@Thor, got one of those too. That works already, but you get the wrong aspect ratio, and fullscreen video sequences in e.g. SS3 get corrupted.
