Radeon HD 7850M
Does anybody know how good/bad this GPU works under Linux?
Want to use a Asrock VisionX 321B as my steambox, it uses the ...M version of the 7850.

I managed to get steam running on my Laptop with the 6850M.
It works (tested World of Goo and Killing Floor 'til now), i might release a small "how-to" after my exams (about first week of Feb.).

You will likely get it to run very smooth/fast, although you might set some settings a little lower (due to the "M" model limitations; less "bang" than the desktop versions).

Sounds good, thank you! Just looking for a living-room-compatible solution, therefore the "bang" is not so important, as long as it will run HL3 on the big screen ;-)

As we both seem to priorize playability over maxed out graphics details, HL3 might run "well" under Linux (native) in your living-room when it comes out ;)

Your System seems to have a lightly "bigger bang" (as i have an Acer Aspire 7750G-2458G64Mnkk with the Radeon HD 6850M), so don't worry.

Everything i will get managed to run won't be a caltrop for you ;)

But first i have to learn for my upcoming exams :-P

Ok, got everything installed. Works nicely so far (sorted out some issues installing the latest 13.1 driver, using xedgers ppa, and had to disable AI for some games). Only problem: bigpicture mode segfaults :-/
