Run steam from a terminal, you might be missing dependencies.

If you click on the Discussions tab, then select any of the sub forums, they've all got a sticky post at, or very near the top entitled 'New Location for Steam for Linux Bugs' (http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/4/846940247657228535/) .

In that post, you can follow a link telling you how and where you should fill in a bug report (https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/blob/master/README.md).

Hope that helps

Don't bother. The game works perfectly. It's the glue between game launcher and Steam which fails. Go to ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/[Amnesia DIR] and try the launchers there.
Oops, almost forgot - you also have to install a library with "alut" in its name - its a dependency. Now, that I think about it, maybe it's because I just installed the amd64 version of the lib, not the i386 one...

hirager u were right game runned flawlesly from the launcher in the install folder so im happy its a shortcut kind of thing problem ,rather than video card.is this a common bug for steam beta in linux? or shal i go to bug report?

I am not sure. I think the best would be to report it to the game developers. I am new to the Steam system, do they have channels for users to communicate with developers? This particular issue is not common. But Steam for Linux does have some problems with packaging, in general.
