Quick question about TF2

My windows recently so i am using Ubuntu before i get around and reinstall windows and well everything else. I have my windows steam folder and i have been wondering if i could copy the win tf2 files to into my linux steam folder so i would not have to download the 10 GBs of hats whole.

.... why dont you do it and post the results... i predict that most of the files will be identical, and steam will only download the needed files for linux

edit - on windows it will say discovering files, when you install the game if there is data already there

Some game .cfg files I presume are the same, but Steam will have to download all Linux files in order for you to play the game.

Heres the files that are shared the 2 others will be downloaded, also make sure you rename the copies to match this list (capital letters).

OK i did it still says it needs to download 2 GBs of content and as much as i would love to finish the download i cannot because of bandwidth cap. I will try to find out if I can move some other gcfs to get it closer to completion

Did you remeber to rename the files? Its weird that the linux ones have capitals and the windows ones don't. It should only download 294 MB for those 2 files.

Finished downloading with 690 MBs downloaded tryed to start the game and of course nothing happened appart from the Launching Team Fortress 2 ... window. Guess i will have to figure that one tommorow.

You might be missing some dependencies. You can try running steam from a terminal and see if any error is mentioned.

I tried to run steam from terminal and there is quite a list of stuff,some warnings and one erorr :

Have you verified the game cache?

To do that right click on Team Fortress 2 in the library, select properties, then the Local Files tab, and click "Verify integrity of game cache..."
