download only option for non-linux platform games
Hey, it would be nice if i could force a download even if the title is not supported on my platform.
For example I have bought doom3 bfg edition in steam and i want to use the datafiles with the open source version of doom3 bfg. but theres no way to download the datafiles unless i use steam in wine to download doom3.

so a force-download option would be quite handy.
more advanced users could also run those forced downloaded games in wine

Not bad idea, tho it should be hidden very deep inside game options, so non-technical users wouldn't get confused (or mess up things :P ).

EDIT:

On the other hand why Valve would support devs with that feature when they do not support Linux? If you know what I mean :)

Wait a sec... there's an open source version of Doom3 BFG? o.O

I played the linux port. Its very good! Compiling is easy, game loads up very fast, mouse look feels right and framerate is awesome. Doom and Doom2 is not working yet, but there are many good engine ports on linux for these games for years.

Guys use WINE, install steam, download the data. This would just contradict the current Steam FOR Linux project.
