Steamui.so Fatal Error
I finally figured out that my graphics driver wasn't installed correctly so steam attempted to update but now I've got a new problem; steamui.so has a fatal error and the system crashes. I've seen workarounds on github but I'm not familiar enough with linux to work my way through them.

Help, please?

Are you using a 64-bit OS? You can workaround this by running this in the terminal or alt-f2(perferrably terminal) without outside quotes

" echo "alias steam='export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib32:/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH/usr/bin/steam:~/.steam/bin32 && steam'" >> .bashrc "

then open a new terminal and just type steam and see if it opens. There is a more pernmanent fix out there i belive that i did that involved fixing the symbolic link with the 32-bit to 64-bit librbries, but this should suffice.

I am using a 64 bit OS. Will give this a try and let you know what happens.

not sure exactly what I should be typing here... so you want me to type this without the outside quotes but with the inside quotes?

ex. echo "alias steam= ... .bashrc

like this?

What system? What kernel? What gpu and with what drivers and from what source? Provide some data mate and don't use random solution cause I'm not sure if mr supermario actually knows what your problem is :)

I'm using Linux Mint 14 64 bit, a GeForce 520 GPU, and so far as I know everything is up to date. I've downloaded Steam both through my software manager and the Steam site itself.
