Steam wont launch at all.
Im running on
AMD FX-4100
8GB DDR3 1333mhz RAM
500gb 7200rpm WD Caviar Blue
MSI GTX 650

What could be the problem? I click on it, the icon fades in and out of blue and nothing happens

Would be good to know what distro you use. Make sure you have the 32 bit version of nvidia-utils installed which is the 32 bit 3D graphics drivers. Since Steam is 32 bit you'll need it.

Linux Distribution or Distro for short is either Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, Mint, Arch Linux, Gentoo. Chances are it's one of the 6.

If you installed the 64 bit version of that distribution and installed the drivers by NVDIA ( There should "Nvidia Settings" somehwhere in your Applications Menu as a Program or try "nvidia-settings" in terminal and see if this command exists) you have to install the 32 bit compatiabilty for that driver in order to use Steam.

Alright I'll try it and report back with the results.

Here is a Wiki Page on how to install the latest driver. 310 driver series is recommended for best performance. I don't know if Ubuntu packages contain 32 bit compatablity by itself.
