Steam for Linux

Steam does not detect ati drivers manually installed
Hi I think the title explains my problem well, what happens esque steam ati driver does not detect when you install them manually.
with manual installation I mean download the driver for linux from amd web site, then install
at the end of the installation always used the command "sudo aticonfig - initial" to create a configuration file to use xorg driver installed.
instead of detecting steam in my driver I recommended to install the driver that is in "additional drivers" of ubuntu

PS: I do not speak English, sorry if some things were not understood, my language is Spanish

yeah the system is flawed you can run ubuntus outdated driver in additional drivers or you can get the up to date drivers from amd direct but if yuou get amd direct drivers steam wont recognize them no way around it as far as i know

Not that the operating system is faulty, what happens is that steam dectecta no driver installed and that is a mistake of steam, because steam is giving priority to the additional drivers
Same problem, Mint 13, fglrx 13.1, manually installed, not detected...really annoying

Manually you mean by downloading the package?
I had similar problems on Linux Mint x64: it said no opengl installed or something like that.
That's why you should use the package-manager.
Btw that's not a steam issue, blaim AMD for that.
Im sure, if you still have that problem (threads pretty old), that you did something wrong on installing the driver.
I have manually installed a bunch of drivers (beta and leaked betas mostly) on different linux systems with steam and never had that happen
For every distro around, its always better to use the repositories.
But sometimes you don't have a choice.

I had no problems though installing the amd beta drivers on suse.
( there is no suse repo for the beta drivers)
not use beta drivers, use the latest version legacy
I have the same problems with the Steam menu, do not display correctly, are transparent and flashes
Did you try to establish if the drivers was installed ok?
Running amdcccle?
