Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

Can't log in
Hey,

I just posted something but apparently it wasn't published.
I'm having problems logging in, everytime I try to it says "This version of Steam is currently in closed beta. Login with an enrolled account to continue.".

I double checked that I have the updated version and also tried on another laptop.

Any help?

Created a second account, nothing changed. Still flagged as uneligible for linux.
Deleted all the configs & reinstalled the latest version, nothing changed either. They may have not opened to users yet after releasing the news.

"This version of Steam is currently in closed beta. Login with an enrolled account to continue." No luck for me :(

Same here. I imagine it will kick in over the next few days.
I have the same issue. Guess I'll go back to reading all the news stories about the open steam for Linux beta. :/
This happened to me, this is how I fixed it

sudo dpkg -r steam:i386
sudo dpkg -P steam:i386
rm -r /home/username/.steam
rm -r /home/username/.local/share/Steam
sudo dpkg -i /home/username/Downloads/steam_latest.deb

Confirmed. Deleting the Steam and .steam directories and reinstalling from the steam_latest.deb resolves the issue.
Mark! Thanx for you all!
I just used "Steam"->"Check for Steam Client Updates" and restarted after updating. Now it works. Thank you.

Confirmed in Fedora 17 as well.

sudo rpm -qa | grep steam sudo rpm --erase steam-xxxx (fill in for your version) rm -rf ~/.steam rm -rf ~/Steam alien -r -c steam.deb sudo rpm -Uvh steam-1.0.0.18.2.i386.rpm
I seem to have a new problem. Get the same message and followed the steps upgrayedd but in step 4 the map can't be found. When i do step 5 (even when I reboot) the install succeeds but here comes the weird part; It still remembers who I am and then i get a limited beta error. So I am probably missing some directory somewhere in deletion?

Steam is only installed to ~/.local/share/Steam in a new update, you may have to remove ~/Steam or wherever you installed it to. Also they have a repo up now ("deb http://repo.steampowered.com/steam precise steam" in yours sources.list file)
