WANTED: Borderlands 2
It was released to Mac so it should be within reaches of linux. I'm INSTA-buying it if it gets linux support. Dont care the cost. It's a social and RPG-ish game = many many hours of gameplay.

Take it up with Gearbox.

2k Games nor gearbox do these mac ports its a company called Aspyr media inc. They do mac ports for high selling titles (black ops) Its unlikely they would do a native linux port of anything. My best guess is to buy the games we got to get some attention of developers i don't see it happening anytime soon tho. As AMD kinda sucks on linux

My point was that 2k/Gearbox would be the only ones able to push for the linux port; anyone wanting to mount a campaign for the port would go to them not Valve.

Okey, should I spam Gearbox, or 2k or both, or none?

My hopes are higher than average for this game since there already has been willingnes to port to a not so profitable OS (Mac) already, but then again, if someone started to port this game right now, as we speak, it would be another 6-12 months before we could get a taste of it ... :/

It's not up to Gearbox or other devs, it's up to Epic Games to release Linux version of Unreal Engine 3 (or nextgen one, 4). Tbh I got more hope for CryEngine 3 (Crysis 2/3, Far Cry 3) since there is a rumor that Crytek already have their engine ported :)

Can you ask 2kgames for the darkness II for me? XD

Well the 3rd party port by Aspyr is so shoddy it won't work cross platform so hopefully we would see something better than that. The ironic thing about the UT3 engine is that it was almost ported, and has been in limbo for a very long time. It was stuck at 90% done because there were a few lines of code Epic was concerned about modifying for copyright reasons so it was never completed. Still it could still happen especially if UT4 comes out and they don't care anymore. Still I hope we see UT4 for newer games (especially Fort-Nite which looks really cool)

See this thread also about a linux Borderlands port: http://steamcommunity.com/app/49520/discussions/0/864959336574530344/

You can add to the community suggestions as other users have done on the gearbox forums:

There was already an Unreal 3 game ported to Linux.

Unlikely to happen, and even if it does the Mac port of BL2 is pretty shabby and often is out of sync with the windows version. Also if you have a NVIDIA card you will likely miss out of some nice PhysX effects due to poor linux physx support. You are likely better off just finishing it on windows.
TheSniperFan May 30, 2013 @ 3:49am
Firstly PhysX is available on Linux. It just uses the CPU instead of the GPU for acceleration.
Secondly: It's gimmicky anyway and you would hardly miss it.
