SS3 hardlocking my system

after getting rid of all the graphical issues, SS3 is hardlocking my system every time i play after a some time of playing.

This is the error i get in the syslog:

Nov 29 20:19:46 gamebox kernel: [ 4735.036208] NVRM: Xid (0000:01:00): 38, 0000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000

Dec 5 17:27:59 gamebox kernel: [ 1261.403513] NVRM: Xid (0000:01:00): 8, Channel 00000009

My Sys:

Ubuntu 12.10 32 bit
Nvidia gtx 560ti with 310.19 driver
Intel core 2 duo E8200

Any ideas what could be causing this ?

best regards,

This should be a bug in the driver itself.
Report your kernel message to.

I'm thinking they're going to say it's not the driver. Here's why:

If you check that forum you'll note that someone had an issue with this over a year ago. It was common then, and NVIDIA said the problem was not them, but a continuos loop error in flash. The forum gives some things to try. One of the possible fixes was checking the USE flags for the NVIDIA driver. Make sure yours isn't trying to use features your proc can't handle. Another person on the forum talks about subtitles in mplayer causing the same issue.

There's another example here:

Reproducing the error seems hard to accomplish consistently as well. I believe the CPU and graphics relation has something to do with this. Check your USE flags for NVIDIA. If this doesn't work, try turning down graphics in SS3 to see if one of the settings is causing it.

In playing with the subtitles issue with mplayer, you might also try disabling the Steam Overlay, in case it's playing some part in it.
