Best way to find out is to try it tbh, an upgrade yo your fried card shouldn't be to expencive tho. You should be able to for like 50 bucks. Make sure you get nvidia for linux gaming tho.

I bought a Nvidia GTX 650 not too long ago. It's a really nice card and not too expensive. Otherwise, if you are looking for something cheap, go on ebay and look for a geforce 8 or 9 series card, but be aware that the GeForce 8 is the oldest series still supported by the current Nvidia driver on Linux. It will be dropped when Nvidia next decides to end support on older cards. The card I upgraded from was a 8600 GTS and it was alright for TF2. I upgraded because I knew that card was approaching the end of the line for driver support.

If you live in the United States and are interested, I suppose I could sell you my old 8600 GTS through eBay. I've actaully have been meaning to put up an auction for it, but just haven't got around to it yet.
