Windows and Linux Dual Install
Hello, I have a dual boot configuration installed on my Laptop.
Many of my game are available on both windows and Linux, is it possible that if I install my game to a location that is accessible from both the windows and Linux platforms. That I can download the game once and access the games from both platforms?
Therefore using less storage space than downloading the game on both installs.

Kind Regards

I'd assume that if you download games on Windows you'll get an entirely different set of executable files which are not supposed to work on Linux of course. Otherwise there would be no need for porting.

that's what ive been told,, but what about if I have both executable files?
So both the .exe and the .sh , but have the same game data?

valve stated that it shouldn't be mixed for various reasons(e.g. linux is case-sensitive while windows is not).

If you really need to you could download both and in Linux replace the game files
which are identical with symbolic links to the windows version.
However you need to know what you are doing, like comparing each file binary
(eg with cmp)
BTW: .sh is not the binary executable, merely a script like .bat

There is no simple solution.
Like slr says.
Just linking the folder on windows will steam start to fix that folder each time you switch os.

You can use symlinks of cource (for the apps in the SteamApps/common folder), it usually works when you do a file check before you play. Some apps are differently packaged however, when you install addons for Killing Floor on Linux you get those to ~/.killingfloor and on Win you get those files in the normal KF folder - and are basically unremoveable without deleteing the whole game as well - even if you only want to remove the addons.

I would try to copy the .cfg files, for all I know it COULD work but I'd test on a virtual machine firts.
