Can not purchase and steam crashes when attempting to view games
Using 12.04.2
When clicking on games from the games list, when it tries to open that page steam continually froze. I forced a steam update and now instead of freezing steam now closes/crashes when trying to view games from the games list.I then must restart and re log inI can not view or buy these games with steam on ubuntu
Any suggestions ? Is this a known bug ?

I ran into this yesterday as well, using 12.04.2. I isntalled openSUSE, I'll let you know soon if this is a Steam bug.

Confirmed, it's a Steam bug.

I think it's the media player trying to stream video. Just use a web browser to buy games in the meantime.

Yes i think this was the issue

I have always had a bad flash experience and thus why i started using google chrome and Pepper API (PPAPI) flash which works much much better.

Anyhoo since using a 64 bit machine i realised i wasnt using a 32bit flash
I followed this https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1493-GHZB-7612
Now although flash framerate is slow as hell at least i can now download/purchase games and steam is no longer crashing .

Your solution perfectly solved this problem on my system (Linux Mint14 64bit on AMD based machine).
Thanks.

I had this problem too and I fixed it using Steam Flash fixer. Here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/0/864958451629025044/

I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 (x86, Pentium D 3GHz, 1GB RAM, hd4650 open driver) on my 2nd PC, and I can't visit the STORE using Steam, when I click on a game flashplayer freezes my PC forcing to ALT+F1 -> "sudo kill STEAM-PID". Other times (also if I'm just in the store homepage) Steam becomes the foreground application and I ,again, have to close it.
Pratically I can not use the STORE tab.

On my 1st PC (I still have Ubuntu 12.10, 64bit, AMD 1055T 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, ati5870-fglrx) I have no problems with the Steam client (I can't view game-videos because of Flash player, but everything works).

+1 @gognoscranes

Try to download Flash Player (.tar.gz) "32 bit" for Linux "64 bit". :-)

Now, Flash Player (.tar.gz) "64 bit" will make Store page crash !!

Did you try "sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin:i386" instead? i know this worked for someone else . I cant test since not having 13.04 currently installed

+1 @gognoscranes, but remember to download the 32-bit version of the adobe flash player, even if you're using 64-bit version of Ubuntu 13.04; worked for me. I did not use the script though. I've downloaded the player from Adobe's web site. I have created ~/steam/bin/plugins folder. I have extracted the 32-bit version of libflashplayer.so to the folder created in previous step. It did work for me.

I'm having the same issue, but I'm using a beta of steam. I should try to go back to stable.
