Breakpad Assertion?

since the "support center" is worthless and is giving me directions for windows/mac, i figured i would try and get some help on here...

System info:
Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) with KDE 4.x environment
kernel 3.2.0-40
nVidia 310.x (current drivers)

the last 3 updates to steam have royally effed up steam every single time & ive spent HOURS fixing it... not sure i can fix this one... i have all the ia32-libs and everything else needed, and was running fine until the last update.

The last update, steam just fails to even start at all, no crash report, or anything... when entering "steam" into the terminal i get this:

I also tried the following:

1. Reinstalling my ia32-libs.
2. Reinstalling Steam via Synaptic Package Manager
3. Removing, then reinstalling steam via Software Center
4. loading the client via terminal

...all of the above have failed... the steam icon pops up next to my mouse for a few seconds, like its trying to load, then disappears & steam never even pops up. It just fails to load all together. I have exhausted myself trying to make this work, but failing miserably.

It's most likely that you're missing the Network Manager dependencies, although they should come in the Steam runtime. If you look at your Steam binaries is steamclient.so executable? Also, check the steam-runtime subdirectory there for libnm* and there should be a few.

yeah, my steamclient.so is executable, and i have all my libnm installed, minus the -dev and -dbg packages.

checked all my dependancies, and i have everything installed, i upgraded a few & made no difference. :(

I dont have a clue what is wrong. Maybe delete steam folder ?
To me it looks this is were you have a problem, but I do not know how to fix it:
Assertion Failed: ClientAPI_InitGlobalInstance: InternalAPI_Init_Internal failed.

The first part looks good though, here is the output from my pc, openSUSE

If you run 'STEAM_DEBUG=1 steam --reset' in a terminal you should get a bunch of information about Steam starting up. Part of that should be unpacking the Steam runtime, which is most likely where you're having your issue. Do you see any errors in that? That should deposit libnm binaries in a steam-runtime subdirectory in your Steam binaries directory (not a system install), did they make it there properly?

In order to refresh your Steam files please do the following:

1. Open Terminal

2. Type steam --reset

3. You will see the following:

Installing bootstrap /home/[username]/.steam/steam/bootstrap.tar.xz

Reset complete!

This should remove and download new Steam files for your Steam client.

Once complete, please launch Steam and retest the issue.

After fixing all my libraries and checking my needed dependents, this seemed to fix my issue...
