Steam for Linux OS
I am having at the game recommendation in Steam and I have noticed that they recommend Ubuntu. I am wondering if it really matters, because I am running Linux Mint 14 mate. Which is basicly a Ubuntu 12.10. Will it change a lot of thing about performances and such?

No, you're good. Linux mint 14 includes all the dependencies you'll need for Steam and Steam games(and even if you didn't, dpkg would sort it out and get them anyways)

Valve only officially offers support for Ubuntu because it's by far the most popular distro for PCs but there are a lot of people who run Steam on Mint without any problems. Basically you should be fine but if you encounter a problem you'll need to get your help from the forums rather than Valve.

According to DistroWatch, Linux Mint IS the most popular Linux distribution! As a Mint user, I have encountered absolutely no problems with Steam, it just works!

Steam already works on non-Linux based distros fine, so it definitely works on Ubuntu based distros like Linux Mint. I have already used it on Linux Mint myself and it works fine. In fact it probably works on these distros better than it does on Ubuntu because they require less resources than Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is by far more popular than Mint. That's coming from someone who doesn't use either of them. Just look at the steam hardware stats. 1.14% of steam users run Ubuntu and only 0.16% run versions of mint.

Exactly. In addition, Distrowatch's numbers come from what people visit the website; Linux Mint users keep checking to see if Mint is rising in the list, and it becomes this self-fulfilling prophecy.

Great. You are a Mint fanboy. We know that now. Still doesn't make Mint more popular than Ubuntu. Not even close. That's just how it is.

You also don't seem to understand how the hardware survey works. It doesn't just track everyone throughout the month. Chances are that people who installed Ubuntu for a TF2 item didn't even get prompted to take the survey let alone take it when they were prompted afterall.

I don't say mint is more popular ... (Even if it should!) I just say, that ubuntu is unusable any more! I know a lot of people that used ubuntu, and now use smth else... Ubuntu is popular just because those that says: "Yeah if you want linux, you MUST download ubuntu! It's user friendly!" Steam the same ... Wanna steam on Linux? So download -_- Ubuntu! The don't even mention other distros, and that set me up!

ad 2) Yeah, and there is also chance that only people that installed ubuntu for TF2 item was prompted...

Good night Sir!

You don't make much sense. Obviously quite a lot still find Ubuntu usable, otherwise they wouldn't use it. Maybe you should stop generalizing. You're not speaking for everyone.

Also how is the long expired TF2 promo going to affect the April Hardware Stats? You riddle me that. :D The promo ended March 1st.

Some guy said it to you couple of months back regarding me, and now I'm telling you: Don't even try harder, you can proudly say "I TRIED" and raise your hands.
