Steam for Linux

Commnunity Linux Porting
Pretty much what the tittle says, Let's allow the Linux community do some of the games porting to the linux platform.
There is a big community of linux-enthusist wanting X game ported, but naturally some game devs don't wanna explore the idea of port this game to Linux.

Only the publisher can approach Steam to have their game added. Even if you had the source code to do a port, the "community" would not be able to get it added to Steam.
What i don't understand, is that the Steam distributed games which already run under a DOSBox aren't deployed with a Linux DOSBox configuration as well. They already got the license to deploy the game under an emulator then and with GOG games, anything running under DOSBox can be assumed to run just as flawlessly in Linux, so it's a no brainer.

Because the developers changed the game and added dosbox. It isn't up to steam to port anything. Ask the developers to do it.

GOG.com gets a license to modify as well as sell the game. Steam only sells them. Steam/Valve does not modify the game it's self or how it functions.
Ehh, i was talking about games that ALREADY run under DOSbox. No porting necessary because Windows and Linux DOSbox are fully interchangable.

I quite understand that porting DOS games to use DOWBox can be tricky. I was talking about games like Fallout that already are ported to use it. There it is only a matter of making the same configuration also available in the Linux library.
Usually community releases are free for non-commercial use. Meaning they wouldn't be allowed to charge for it if they used community work.

It is still up to the Devoper/Pubisher what OS they want the program to work on. Ask the developer. If they get enough intrest for it, they may add a Linux version.
Why not just install DOSBox?

I know you kids love Steam, but this fixation and dependency of having everything in it will end badly one day.

It's not just Steam, either. Don't forget the Windblows Store and the iBads. Hello socialism! Equal impoverishment for everybody! Oh, and don't get caught out in public out of your cilivian uniform! How did the human species ever survive back when the individual was empowered to make thier own choices?

What are you talking about?
Just ranting about socialism being on the rise, especially when it comes to the computer software market.

That word doesn't mean what you think it means.
It doesn't mean what anyone thinks it means, because it doesn't mean anything at all anymore. It's just a scareword used by people to brand anything they don't like.
Wouldn't the developers/publishers have to give up the source code to their games in order for them to be ported to Linux (by the community)? If that's the case then I'm sure we'll never see this happen.

Define "give up." Also, it depends on which license they use.
Give up - " to have over".
