Steam Update moved steam folder on me.
I got the recent mid/late april updates,, and i couldn't run steam as it askedme for my steam directory, or to re-install. My steam folder was /home/me/Steam so i pointed the tool at my folder, but it failed to detect a valid steam data folder. I tried every subdirectory I could but now luck. SO i let it re-install and now it is installed at /home/me/.local/share/Steam with the games folder in /home/me/.local/share/Steam/steam/games can i just copy /home/me/Steam/steam/games to /home/me/.local/share/Steam/steam/games and all my previously installed games will work?
A real pain in the butt that this happened. Thanks.

Update,, it would seem that /home/me/Steam/steam/games isn't the main directory of the games. /home/me/Steam/SteamApps is where i have 60GB of app files.. so can i just copy the SteamApps folder across to he new steam install directory? ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/

I've just checked and I also have 2 big directories one ~/.steam/ and another one in ~/.local/share/Steam/
A little strange.

I seem to have that folder also.. /home/me/.steam It might be we've installed steam multiple times due to beta phase and veraious stages of testing.. although, it turns out /home/me/.steam just contains symlinks to /home/me/.local/share/Steam folders and contains a few simple files like steam's .pid file and agreement text registration file etc.

When i look in the menu's Steam->Settings select the "Downloads+Cloud" tab, at the bottom of the dialog "STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS" is set to /home/me/.local/share/Steam so .... i'm not sure what the /home/me/.steam folder is.

It might be you can add alternate locations back onto your account if you do have multiple "Steam" folders on your system. I've moved my SteamApps folder across already so I can't really test that out,, but there are a heck of a lot of folders there in the origional /home/me/Steam/ folder. hmmm.

You can of course move the SteamApps folder, thats the only folder you should backup in case you dont want to dl everything again when you want to move to another pc or wipe out the rest of the home...

~/.steam/ it's only a folder who contains symbolink
if you want reinstall steam you can use
"$ steam --reset" with that steam is reinstated and games maintained
but if you want erase all /home is it better to backup of all the games of steam
