Failed to load SteamUI localization file.
When I try to start Steam from the terminal I get the following errors:

I downloaded steam_latest.deb, double clicked and installed with the Ubuntu Software Center. Uninstalled and purged via terminal and reinstalled, same issue.

When I try to run "$ sudo steam steam://open/games" it says "Cannot run as root"

System specs:
Running Ubuntu 12.10 32-bit
16GB RAM
Intel Core i7-3770k

What is 'steam://open/games' supposed to do?

It is just supposed to open the games tab. If I just use "steam" instead I get the same issue, I updated to Ubuntu 13.04 and I have the same issue still.

Reinstaling the package doesn't reinstall steam, unfortunately. You need to find your steam data inside your home folder and remove it to install it again.

install gdebi and use it to open the Steam installer downloaded from the Steam website
