So you can explain that?
1. People who installed Steam on Linux to get TF2 Penguin and then dropped it again.
2. People who would like to ply on Linux but have AMD graphics cards and got frustrated with the drivers.

A percentage close to 2% is actually in tune with overall desktop market share - which is actually good because so far Gaming was weak on Linux in the past - compared to office/dev/media/browsing use.
And actual Linux gamers share is a bit higher than the Linux OS share because gamers playing AAA titles on Wine use the Windows version and appear as W7/XP users in the statistics.

It's early days. The coming months will be interesting, when Valve and others add some more modern titles and eventually when the SteamBox appears - with whatever launch titles Valve can get on that.
It will also be interesting to see what the Blizzard game will be that they announced to port to Linux this year.

I think when you click on the "system information" in the "help" tab then press the "compare my results with other users" it should automatically count your HW

This. And also people who'd like to play on linux but get frustrated with the lack of games.
People saying "March isn't over" are embarrassing themselves. Learn2math. Particularly percentages. Unless you're saying that everyone has been using Wine in Windows and is just waiting for the last second to switch back to linux, or something stupid.
Wait till we get games like CS:GO and Dota2, can't really expect anything above 2~3% with so few tiltes.
