Should we ask Irrational Games?

Despite the market share, I don't see why not. It'll be already ported to OpenGL anyway.

What are you waiting for? Go ahead and do it already :)

I doubt it but send them emails anyway, can't hurt. I did.

Would be too good to be true :(

If they never port games because of market share, there will be no market share ever. Same for both mac and linux.

This.^

Market share is driven by how many users actually use the products of a company. If a company ported their (in this case) games to Linux, then their market share will grow and more users would be willing to use Linux because of this, thus increasing the overall market share of both Linux and the game developer companies. Although, Linux is still popular without Bioshock in which case it's your own loss if you don't port any game to Linux because you feel Windows is your tool to success.

Although, as a counterargument, I think one would want to avoid the use of the term 'Linux' since there are different 'sides' of Linux. The most popular branch of Linux lies under the Ubuntu-like OS' and because more users use Ubuntu-like OS' than other distros, you'd want to port the game specifically under the aforementioned branch rather than some random distro.

Thoughts?

Steam hw/sw March stats could change their mind if Linux will have more percentage than OSX.

The Mac version would probably be done by a third party, and it's up to them whether they think there is money in a Linux port. A year ago I would have said forget it, even six months ago. Now, I think it might just be worth their time.

I guess it won't change much until Valve starts releasing games.

"Should we ask Irrational Games?"
Silly question. If you want the game on your platform, of course you should ask for it. They won't know the demand unless you, well, "demand" it :)

I make it a habit of e-mailing or trying to contact companies that I'd like to play the games of now. You all should too. It'll increase the visibility of Linux as a gaming platform and give them an idea of whether or not it would be worth it to port their games.

Here's the thing. According to another article I read about this (I forget where it was), Feral is doing the port, which means it won't be a SteamPlay title anyway; it'll probably be an App Store exclusive. So even if they were to port it to Linux, it wouldn't be available on Steam except maybe, maybe as a separate title you have to pay full price for. Are you still OK with that?

Not all game companies are as open minded as Valve. It's really interesting, because one of their symbol is that guy with the valve on the back of his head... (Open your mind)

So as unfortunate as it is, we might never see a Linux port of Infinite and other AAA games.

Curses. I'll never be able to toss my W7 partition. :(

the game is made by aspyr, not feral, and this decreases the chance of a linux port i guess, as they never did linux ports on most likely never will. i bet they booth are huge in love with their apple products.

I created a post on Irrational Games' forum:
http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?221791-Please-port-Bioshock-Infinite-to-Linux!

OP, if you would include this in your post, and ask everyone here to post there too? Let's get some visibility!

Why Mac!? It's gaming percentage is shrinking while Linux is growing! Are they stupid!?
