Steam for Linux

A long time developer of *nix, but no beta access for steam?
Ok so I've signed up for this Beta access for a while now and seeing how i'm a developer myself and have been so for many years (mainly a IT security developer focusing on code reviews) i thought it would first of all be easy to get access or find out how to get the access.. secondly I didn't expect it to take longer than a few months..

The only two reasons i use Windows is Photoshop and Steam.. i can emulate Photoshop but steam is harder, so a native client would be awesome (and seeing how Dota2 is under porting review i'm not faar from ditching Windows forever..).

So, my question i guess is.. how and when do i get access to the beta?
Do i have to.. erm E-bend over or something in order to get it or is it even possible (closed until release)?

Or is it perhaps that simple that if i can see the "Beta discussion forum" I'm already in but just never got the notification?

Cheers //Torxed

Steam for Linux went out of beta a bit more than a month ago and is now officialy released and available.

If you're running Ubuntu, just grab the package. Otherwise check if you're distro made a package available, or (if unfortunately previous statement do not apply for you) grab it directly from http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/pool/steam/s/steam/ and try to make it work for you.

True but wine is shaky as hell on some platforms tho which is annoying considering they've had years to develop that base

WINE is crap, which is a shame because you're going to need it when they come out with SourceMod support for Linux, unless they either write in a library that'll translate a .dll automatically (like WINE), or the dev re-compiles it for Linux..

Well i can't see why they wouldn't be able to recompile it for Linux.. Can't see that they would need any system API's from windows to do what they do really.. so re-compiling it shouldn't be a drag for them.

Because some modders have not used Steam for 2 years in the time since they released their mod, or they're dis-attatched to it and couldn't care less. Major mods like Black Mesa: Source, and Nightmare House will probably be ported though.
