Distrochoice for hardwaresystems with gpus from AMD
This thread is for people struggling with driver issues regarding AMD hardware.

After distrohopping for a long time (Debian, Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora, Manjaro....) I finally found the right 1.
Opensuse XFCE (NOT KDE, KDE SUCKS, audio-bugs on 64bit (nosound etc.) | Gnome on Suse makes alot of problems playing games.).

If anyone of you having nightmares with HD6xxx/7xxx, try Suse Xfce and this script

http://www.sebastian-siebert.de/

http://de.opensuse.org/SDB:AMD/ATI-Grafiktreiber#Installation_via_makerpm-amd-Skript

(no English version available afaik, use translator)

Finally dota 2 works properly.

KDE doesn't suck. The bugs in openSUSE only happen in openSUSE and regardless of the DE of choice. The audio there is terrible, I've had numerous problems.

KDE probably has the cleanest interface to ALSA of all. Sound's tricky on Linux, still (try setting up a mic, it's a proper carry-on) but KDE's not bad at all.
