Steam for Linux produces ghost windows
Hei there every time I want to start a game the “Prepairing to launch <theGame>... “ window appears, but never leaves the screen again. So after playing I always have to restart the X server witch is really annoying. Is there a way to demand this, or is it a bug?

What is your WM and DE? It looks more like they have a bug.

I'm using Linux Mint 16 x86_64 with a Cinamon 2.0.14 Desktop.

If it's games-specific then you should consult the game devs.

Hm but i think its more a problem of the desktop. I saw this problem also occurring in other programs running on cinamon.

Cinnamon is really graphics intensive; switch to something lighter like MATE or XFCE.
HerrSchnapsi Jan 15 @ 2:40pm
I don't think its because its grapics intensive. Well im asking again in a linux forum, maybe its a bug.
HerrSchnapsi Jan 17 @ 9:13am
ok i eventually found out something. This bug was first reported one year ago in cinamon 1.6.4, and sicne then it was fixed a multible times. But it seams to still be there. Well the clue is to disable closing animation then everyting works fine.

So it's related to Cinnamon? Have you tried installing another DE and see if the bug appears? You could either just disable the closing effect, or if you want the effect then log on with a different DE (Gnome, KDE, etc)
R3450N Jan 17 @ 11:12am
If this is true, then my post regarding Cinnamon might also be true as well. Again, use something lighter like XFCE or MATE.
HerrSchnapsi Jan 17 @ 2:28pm
XD yea i can live without closing animations, and since i disabled it things working fine. Im just wondering why the bug is still there when its said that it's been solved ... even multiple times :P ?!?

Take my advice: don't use Cinnamon. The thing about that DE is it looks great on the outside but terrible on the inside; simply because that DE uses resources that A. other applications need; B. doesn't handle those resources effectively; and C. is worse than GNOME 3. Suffice it to say MATE/XFCE and even KDE are better alternatives. At least KDE knows when to stop.
