I have the same problem but I think it only happens when Steam updates itself. Sorry I have no idea how to fix it.

Where is your Steamapps folder located?

Note unlike Windows, capitalization is important in Linux directory and file names. I see people saying Steamapps and steamapps, mine has always been SteamApps (in Ubuntu).

I have been running Linux Steam beta since before it was released. Since switching from Ubuntu 12.04 to fresh 14.04.1 with same home copied over, I have experienced steam client asking me to authenticate again with e-mailed code (random times for each of 2 accts), and after logging in having games appear to be uninstalled in Library. But after exiting steam and restarting it, everything was back to normal and no games were actually deleted.

But it is a mystery why steam client sometimes thinks you are logging in from a new device and have no games installed, even if they are still where they have always been (since relocated from SteamApps/username/ to SteamApps/common/ when steampipe was implemented long ago).

Well the SteamApps folder no longer has capital letters (i installed Steam on several devices) and it just happen when i tried to make a copy of my games on the newest one that the folder now is all small caps. idk if it has anything to do with the bug but i am glad they solved it.

I've seen this and I never use mods. It's just a Steam bug. Leave the default Steam library empty and install games to an external one until it gets fixed. External libraries are not deleted when this happens.

You make a directory anywhere, open steam, go to settings/downloads, manage steam libraries, then add this directory as a steam library. Then when you install the game, select this location instead of the default one.

You're welcome. It happened to me again yesterday. One thing I noticed is whenever this happens to me, I get the survey on the "first" login. Anyone else?

Huh. I never had to take a survey...

Most do not get it, it is random. (Some Linuxers think there's a bug and Linuxers get asked less often. I don't think so. It's just liek elections surveys: Most people are not being asked that either...)

Are you new to Steam? It was fine until a few weeks ago. It's a bug in one of the recent updates. It will be fixed.

I got Steam in the summer, and Linux Steam around 2-3 months ago.
Don't worry then, it used to be fine ever since we got the first beta more than a year ago (or two?). It will be fixed.
