Any way to run on a non-SSE2 processor or to run steam games without steam?
? Quite some low-ressource-eating games on Linux.
Any way to get them running w/o SSE2? To run steam w/o it? To run the games w/o steam? An unofficial steam client?

Or only by wine, probably eating TONS of ressources?

I think you can only do it with wine. There won't ever be an unofficial steam client as is closed software. Many of those games are available from other sources so that's probably your best bet for playing them.

Your best bet would be somewhere like:

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select Linux as your platform. The games that have the 'DRM FREE' icon next to them don't require Steam to play and can be downloaded directly from the site (though they may give you a Steam key as well).

If he was open-source it would be possible ;)
