Wine 1.7.8 for Debian.
Hey guys. I need to install Wine 1.7.8 for Debian. But I'm pretty stupid to do that. My linux skills are very low. Anyone could help me with the installation? I need only 1.7.8.

Sorry but I need only wine. And only 1.7.8 because I have very specific software that won't even start on any other version except 1.7.8

playonlinux lets you download and use any version of wine. Just for cases like yours.

Well playonlinux is not exactly what I need. If I understand correct playonlinux is environment that emulate wine without actually having it installed? Software that I use isn't game btw.

Now that'd be the mother of all oxymorons!! (sorry, I had to point it out :D)

But as others have said, you could:
  • Install it using PoL.
  • Install it from source.
  • Searching for a (surely) prebuilt .deb

Please check what PoL actually IS...

For dummies: It is a bottle manager, a bottle being a wine prefix other than the system wide installation of wine. You can install a program into a bottle, i.e using that bottle's wine version and prefix. You can manage the bottles in PoL and even assign different versions of Wine to them. Seriously, try it out and you'll see... BTW, instead of a $HOME/.wine/drive_c directory structure you have with "regular" wine, with PoL you get $HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/$BOTTLE/drive_c kind of tree with configurations and stuff in the main .PlayOnLinux home directory.

Even if someone will build wine for me or I'll find deb somewhere, what about the dependencies? I doubt I can deal with them... Playonlinux could solve this for me automatically?

Yes get PlayOnLinux. Listen to everyone here. It will let you choose the exact version of Wine you want, on a per-game basis.
