The most accurate OS marketshare stats?
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_os.asp

These stats look like the most accurate numbers of all the stat sites I've been to. What do you think? I think Linux IS at the 5% mark in actuality.

Most accurate != What rates linux the highest...
2% or 5% -- not much difference.

No, I think it's BS that most sites rate Linux at less than 2%, there are clearly more people using it than that. Same with WinXP, anyone who thinks that XP's marketshare is still 27% is brain dead. The numbers for all of them make sense.

No it isn't, but it would explain the recent interest that devs have in Linux.

You're American, aren't you?... I'll tell you some news: Poor contries are not a myth, they exist! Yes, there are millions of old P4 computers with 256MB RAM still rocking under Windows XP. Some use it on newer hardware as well. And there are tons of companies that didn't switch to 7. For a company, it's a huge cost because companies can't just "get it from elsewhere"...

I know that, and 8% still means ten's of millions of people, maybe even more than 100 million. 27% is simply not a factual number.

i think there are 2bil PC users in the world 2%-5% is not bad :)
It's impossible to gather an accurate census of OS usage using the identifier supplied from web browsers. Browsers can report a different OS than what they are running on. Browsers can be run inside a virtual appliance. Android can be detected as Linux. People could be connecting through a proxy that changes the browser identifier. There could be some kind of common trojan/worm in a given month that performs a denial of service attack by downloading a webpage multiple times that reports itself as Windows XP. A Windows user might load a website 100 times and a Linux user might load a website 3 times.

Geez, way to crush my hopes and dreams :(

Meanwhile some people in the world of Windows don't even know what Linux is. If they did, they'd probably add up to Linux's market share massively.

Windows 7 market share 5.7% in February 2013? Lol. I dream of a time where Linux market share will hit 20% at least.

I actually wear a Linux hat at work where hundreds of people see it everyday, and so far not one person has noticed it LOL, they most likely don't know what it means. But when I wear a sports related hat, it gets quite a few comments.

Mac at 10%, mobile at 5%. Where are all the people with Macs, because I sure see tablets & smartphones everywhere. Now I know I'm not a God or something which can be present all over the world at the same time, but I think I would see a bunch of Apple's desktop stuff in the public institutions, schools or friends.

Outside of the US most people use android devices, Apple stuff is too expensive.
