CLI Client for In Home streaming.
I know I saw something for a CLI client for steam. But why can't steam offer a version of the client to install on a CLI to act as a in home server? For example, use your steam GUI on the pc you want to play the games on and have it install on your CLI computer to use as a server. It would free up HDD space on your computer. The only reason I came up with this is because a old computer I got from a friend can't handle a GUI os but can run a CLI just fine.

This is a pretty good idea I think.

and since all functionality (I guess just game launching) could be handled through the remote GUI anyway it wouldn't require them to write much extra code for CLI options (which I suppose they would have had to do for a full steam CLI client), they could just make it a very bare-bones client

I haven't tried the streaming feature yet, but am I correct to assume that the in-game overlay (either normal or big-picture) is not streamed but is just rendered locally?

Errr, maybe I'm missing something here but if the server machine can't handle running a gui how is it going to handle running a game? (since with steam streaming the server is the one running the game)

If you're just worried about space you could probably put your steam library on a server by mounting it through NFS. Other than being a bit slow (if you're not on gigabit ethernet) I can't see why that wouldn't work.

Sam I see your point. And I think that's not a bad idea. My point is that a light CLI client that acts as a hub would be much better. That way anyone in the house that is using the same account as you can access it easily. And as far as my GUI issues, I believe just because of a card or some thing else. It streams files just fine
