CTD when trying to start standard game or multiplayer.
My game crashes to desktop when I try to start a standard game or create/join game in multiplayer. Searching for multiplayer game shows nothing. Campaings, on the other hand, works great (no lags/other issues).
I tried checking data cache. Reinstalling. Joining beta. I deleted any other AOE games and reinstalled again. I scanned for virus – also by online scanner and trojan removal tools (nothing found).
My drivers are up to date and I'm not experiencing problems with any other game/program.

My computer specs are:
Windows 7 64-bit SP1
i5 3210M
8GB DDR3
1GB NVIDIA GeForce 610M and Intel HD Graphics 4000

Somebody please help me... :|

-What language are you using?
Hekkaryk Sep 1, 2014 @ 9:59pm
English (for game and Steam).

You guys ignored me after my last message, didn't you?
OK. That's fine. You sure can do this. After all I only bought your game, right?

That's fineee. It's totally fine. Keep it that way. Keep it up!

Anyway, back to the topic - what should I do now? Will I get refund or something? I highly doubt. More important I want to play much more than getting money back.

When you verified the game cache, were there any files re-acquired? If so, try again after running Steam as admin to make sure it has permissions to save the new files.

If that doesn't help, we'll want to take a closer look. Can you post the crash logs?
Hekkaryk Sep 3, 2014 @ 3:22pm
After verifing game cache there was no files re-acquired - additionally I reinstalled game after first cache check.
After your post I runned Steam as administrator and verified it again, found no errors.

For about 3/10+ CTD's I got a Steam message like "Game is currently running" after CTD.

About crash logs - don't know where to find them. I found "logs" directory in main folder. Assuming that it's that I'm uploading last logs:
+ loc_log.txt is empty
+ main-log.txt http://pastebin.com/HVkKDcQL

EDIT: Thanks for your reply ;) Sorry for last post...

What we'll want to see is in the Event Viewer. Just launch it from the Start menu, then select Windows Logs > Application from the left-hand pane, and look for the entry at the time of the crash. You should see something that starts with "Faulting application name: AoK HD.exe" or similar.

Checked that, and... that's weird. There is no events in Application, but in System tab it shows multiple instances of something like "Couldn't start Steam Client Service because of: no such file" at time of crash.
Is this possible that it's Steam fault? I'm going to try reinstalling it...
EDIT: Found out that there is no Steam Client Service on my computer. Interesting...
EDIT2: Just now reinstalled Steam and it can't add Steam Client Service. I'll write more once I'll find a way to do this.
EDIT3: I can't add Steam Client Service. Even after 3 reinstallations of Steam it's still not there. I wonder if I should contact Steam support about that...
EDIT4: Managed to add and start Steam Client Service - AOE2HD still crashed when I try to start standard/multiplayer game. Now there is no logs at all in Event Logs at time of crash...

-Do you have any other games on Steam?
Hekkaryk Sep 5, 2014 @ 8:32am
Yes I have. A lot. At least 3 other games (Dishonored, Terraria and Stronghold HD) worked fine when I was having problems with AOE2HD.
I unistalled everything to restore that Steam Client Service, but Terraria works fine.
EDIT: I'm getting lonely when you guys don't respond for a long time... :|
EDIT2: AOE3 works fine. Would love to play AOE2HD too... :(

-What does this mean? I'm not a technical expert, but are these two graphics cards?
Hekkaryk Sep 8, 2014 @ 2:49pm
Yeah, I bought a medium-priced laptop with integrated graphics card and an standalone one.

Both of them have separate drivers (as far as I understand) and you can let system decide which is better suited for program or choose one manually. I wasn't even noticing that until I found out some games measure laptop speed according to slower (integrater) when they actually use standalone...

But AOE2HD is first game I ever had problems with. I could run Skyrim/Far Cry 3 on high details...

-Try disabling your integrated graphics card. Let us know the results!

I just leanerd the hard way that you should never disable something manually in device manager... everything went black, and after rebootwhen I tried to change resolution I got a message that my system didn't detect any graphics card at all.

Well, I guess I could expect that. I'll look for a proper way to disable this integrated card and post further results...
EDIT: OK, after I bit o research I learned that:
a) I'm already using only NVIDIA for games,
b) system will ONLY use integrated card, so if I turn it off, Windows will behave like there is no graphics card installed. BIOS configured correctly, further interference may cause hardware damage... I don't get it. Box version of AOE2 was running GREAT and HD edition from Steam is... well, disappointing. Yes, I had box version installed previously; and let me tell before you ask - not a pirate version from intenet.
Wait. Can this be source of my problem? I had box version of game, unistalled it and downloaded Steam version. Could it create any problem, like shared files not removed after unistallation? I'll look at this...

-You can try right clicking on the game .exe and choosing "run with graphics processor" if that is an option for you. You can also try opening up your nvidia control panel and navigating to the 'manage 3d settings' page and under the global settings where it says "preferred graphics processor", choose the option for "high-performance nvidia processor".

Yup, I tried it after first CTD :) It's also set this way now...
