The interface is frakked, enough said. Unless you have a lot of patience, it can be quite frustrating.

On the bright side, it has already been given one much needed improvement in that regard so it seems to be getting better. It wasn't quite as elegant an implementation as I would have preferred but it's certainly an improvement.

I don't disagree with you at all Cyborgt, any improvement is welcome!

The interface needs improved and the townies/enemies need animations. After that point, I'd feel at least semi-comfortable recommending this game.

Animations are things that are really not important for improving this game at all. It need some other things that are much more important than animations that doesn't have any impact on gameplay.

True, there are things more important than animations but to suggest that animations wouldn't have any impact at all on the quality of the game is ridiculous. TBH, the ridiculous look of the combat due to the complete lack of any animation for it was one of the aspects of the game that made me question the idea of purchasing it the most.

It just gives the impression that nobody really cares when their idea of a combat animation is smashing two sprites into one another for a while. It probably would have looked better if they just stood motionless and the game placed a symbol between them to signify combat. I'm as much an advocate of the idea that gameplay matters more than visuals as anyone else I know but i'd never suggest that it doesn't matter at all.

The Dev team seems awfully preoccupied with "Versions". I know its still in beta, but this should not have been released on the Steam Store in the state it was in. There are quite a few bugs, and I think a game that has a price this high, should be much more polished before going to the market place. So much is lacking, and so many promises have been made by the Dev's, and I really doubt we will see any of these come to fruition. I'm hopeful the Dev's come through, I'm just not counting on it.

Can everyone please just stop saying this? I don't care that it's easily arguable as "beta quality" but it is factually inaccurate to claim the game to actually BE beta. It is not. The devs themselves called the game they released back in November the release version.

This game is the released product. It doesn't matter how much more they intend to add or how many changes it goes through, it's not in beta. I would love nothing more than to see everyone cease making reference to such an idea entirely.

If you read my post again, you will see that i said not important for improving the game. Will animations improve the game? Yes. Will it improve a lot? No. It would have impact on the game, but very small one.
He generally says that the biggest problem of the game is lack of animations, and that is the only reason he will not think to recommend the game, and as such got my response.
There are people that graphic, animations and other things are very important, but for me, they are not.

In regard to Cyborgt, the game still plays like its in early beta. That's all I was saying. It doesn't make it right that they said it was a "release version", it clearly was not when it was released, and still is not now. I was in no way defending the Dev's, not by a long shot.

Atrocious Townie AI that has not been improved in the past two major patches.
.PrimeMover. Feb 14, 2013 @ 3:05pm
Yes, the townies are still little more than random moving sprites at this point.

Speaking of reading a post again, he said that the interface needed improvements as well before he'd feel comfortable recommending it. I also don't find it unreasonable for someone to not be comfortable with the idea of recommending a game that doesn't really have animations.

As you said yourself, there are those for whom graphics/animations are very important so if you know a game doesn't have those you probably shouldn't feel comfortable in recommending it to just anyone. When a game fails in terms of visuals you can only really feel comfortable in recommending it to those who are fans of its genre already. Others would likely be put off by the lacking visuals by comparison to the games they normally play.

I would never reccomend this game to anyone, even if they do manage to greatly improve it. Buying something and then having that gut wrenching feeling of getting ripped off never goes away. This "Dev Team", will never recieve another dime from me, and I use the term "Dev Team" very lightly. The Devs that made "S.P.A.Z."... a very small team, delivered a great game, with far more to do, and a far better development timeline than the "Dev's" of Towns...
