Need help with farming and not feeding wild animals.
I need help. Every time my townies get some food, they go and feed wild animals rather then use it for food themselves. I have 27 people, and have set my production line to produce 20 loaves of bread, yet I have 2...

How can I stop this stupid cycle?

Slaughter all the wild animals? Turning them into animal farms for future purposes and turning them all off would also work.

The townies don't feed wild animals. If they are going all over the map to feed animals, that means you've bred some that aren't confined. There are a few ways this can occur. First, if you make an animal farm but don't fence it in the animals that spawn will wonder all over the map and the townies will track them down to feed them. Or second, if you've made a fenced area too small the animals can escape as townies enter the gate.

There is only one way to fix this. Hunt them down and slaughter them. If you hover over an animal, for example a cow, it will either say "wild cow" or just "cow". Don't worry about the wild ones, but kill any that aren't. If you want to save the trouble just watch for the ones your townies go to feed and kill em. Before you go any further with this though, find the source of the problem. Check your animal farms and make sure they're fenced in, and if not, delete them till you can construct a fenced in area.

Well, unless the way they work has been changed you don't need to delete them. Disabling them has the same effect as deleting them without the potential problem of leaving you without that animal later on.

As for fencing in your farms, the graphic used for the farms makes it look like they have fences but they don't. It's generally a good practice to fence in a decent sized area for use in animal farming and then put farms in that area as you need them.

can I just add, I cant get them to butcher animals either... there jsut does not seem to be any good reason to have them.

I currently have 30 townies - I switch 10 to soldiers every so often to bring their happiness up

I have a lot of different farms in two areas seperated with 2 doors that I can close and selectively starve animals if I have to. if I right click and ask for them to be killed they never do and if it wasn't for the fact I grow a hell of a lot of emergency pears and apples my townies would be dead multiple times over. I'm currently trying to farm more and more wheat to see if I can balance out the wheat production for animal feeding but so far regardless of what I do the townies would rather feed the animals and NEVER slaughter them - than actually feed themselves with bread or butcher the animals :-/

I think I managed to fix the issue by changing priorities .... I personally think you should have 3 types of people. Citizens, soldiers and haulers, all of which revert to hauling when they have nothing better to do - problem solved =P

I wish there was some way to limit the number of animals produced by a farm, in the same way you can with most other commodities. With a large population, having to constantly micromanage the farms to balance between the need for meat and wheat simply becomes too much work to be fun IMHO. The same goes for minecarts, there needs to be some way to throttle them. Mills work perfectly now, that's the way to do it.
