Hi i just downloaded the new patch and started a new normal world. About a couple hours in (just got my farm animals and houses and armory done) i just found out why my animals were starving (need wheat or was it flour?) but theres no wheat anywhere on the map does anyone know how i can cheat some in or somthing? i cant sustain my population with my animals dieing off constantly and i would prefer not to start over. any help would be appreciated

Hahahaha, omg the patch is just out and already we are having problems. What I used to do, when I played this game, was first of all, make some open areas and plant wheat. Then the villagers would go and get chopped wheat and plant it there. Thus I would grow my own wheat. But if its not on your map, your screwed and either have to wait till a merchant brings some or start a new game. Xavi always surprises me with more and more, that doesnt seem to work. I guess we will have to wait untill some skilled person comes along and makes a mod for this game so it will work!

Don't hold it against him, Towns has burned a number of people to varying degrees. Potentially it's just a bug that's cropped up with the latest patch...it's hard to tell without more input. It might be best to check if it's a consistent problem that happens or whether it was just one unfortunate circumstance.

Well, if it happens again we'll know better if it's a bug or not. Hopefully it was just something happening that you missed rather than a bug.

I haven't played the game for a while so I'm not entirelty sure about the new mechanics, but I saw a comment saying to always start farming wheat before animals or anything so your people don't just feed tge wheat tio the animals, and you lose all of the hweat on the map, you should be able to get some from a merchant, I think/

I'll add another farm animal problem. The villagers run out to feed every animal on the map. Wich is a good way in the early game to get your population destroyed by either angry monsters, or the villagers die of food shortage since they spend all their time running around the entire map with wheat for some silly chicken instead of making food for themselves.

Orange is correct, you can buy wheat from some of the merchants, make sure you build a market (you have to wait the first in game week for them to come). Always plant wheat before farms or the townies will feed it all to the animals.

Duq, if you build a x2 high wall around your farms it will keep your villagers from running all over the place to feed the animals that wander off. This is also convenient for food production. You do not need to put a roof over the wall to keep the animals in but you will need doors.

Hope that helps. :)

Feeding animals and mills takes precedence over planting crops. If you start a farm or make a mill before planting your wheat field it is "Game Over" so to speak. Don't under estimate the size of the wheat field you will need in the beginning either. It will need to be drastically larger than a previous wheat field you would have used.

Isn't it possible to change task priority, though? Prioritize the planting of foods over feeding animals?

The priorities menu does not work in that fashion. You prioritize jobs like building walls, constructing items, mining / digging, harvesting, butchering.

Well dang, that's unfortunate. You'd think you could manage the priority of all prominent tasks with it.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's a problem Nalidus, your townies only feed animals that reproduced on your farm - not wild animals. If you keep your animals stockaded your townies will not run across creation trying to feed them, your livestock is all in one location.

You wouldn't buy a field and drop cows in it in real life and expect them to stay obediently in one place - you build fences to keep them contained in an area. The game is working on the same mechanic.

The issue now is that your townies will try to feed the livestock that broke free from its pen and wandered into froggie territory.

it would be nice to see somthing that sets a specific area at larger priority then everywhere else or a do not wander out of this area u will die kinda button

not bugs just prioity and balance issues u just have to keep ur animal population in check and turn farms off if u dont have enough villagers to use all the food
