Towns, I like it. However.
Biggest problems, I see; There is no development scheduled and no real out look for consistent updates. The game needs a lot of work. its awkward to play at the least. no flow, no rewards for doing well. hero's die easy...

I do enjoy the game, up till the point I get to many "ghost of past hero"s spawning in my town... Its not my fault the little ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s go and get killed... do 8 ghosts really need to cut down my entire town of 46 ok armed slaves?

I bought it with out a gun to my head. This being my first green light suggested game that I bought. I am unlikely to be doing that again.

I have a lot suggestions and input but it wouldn't be free.

I'll keep it installed for awhile in hopes of updates/improvements.

Yeah I really like the game too. I'm waiting for an update that makes the game more enjoyable.

I'm not sure this is truly indicative of all Greenlight games, so I suggest you judge them individually.

About the ghosts. if you build some graves ahead of time, when somebody dies the townies will fetch the bones and bury them so that they don't spawn ghosts. Of course, this can lead to more townies dying but if they are armed reasonably well and you aren't too deep in the dungeon it should really help.

You can also keep ghosts from spawning by destroying the corpses, too, if you can't get to them. There's nothing penalizing you from doing that besides missing the chance to create decorations, which boost your townsfolks' happiness. And yeah, currently I don't think there's isn't a population cap for Ghosts of Heroes Past, regardless if it's a corpse of a hero or not.

I alway forget about this option as I refuse to use the "hand of God" in this game. Just feels like a cheat.

There is development in progress. A recent post by one of the developers on what's coming next and in the future can be found here: http://www.townsgame.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=7714

To highlight specifically what is coming in v9: Save game compatibility, animations, proper save/load options, as well as a new hero, mob, and animal.

I know for a fact the new hero, mob, and animal are coming because they are the rewards from the .50 Mega Build Contest, which I ran, and have had direct communication with the game developers over. All rewards from the previous Weekly Build contest were created, including things such as the tomb, purple throne, chess table, iron bars, fireplace with the animal head, and others, all relating to which theme the contest was over. In the future we may hold another contest after the new hero, mob, and animal have been released.

In the past, the dev's have kept pretty close to released schedules that they have set. As a two man team, release schedules have been wide and varied at times. They have given the next update a high probability for this month, and I believe them based on their past record. Those new to the game may have had their new faith in the game shaken, but the wheels are turning and new content will be coming soon.

@Evecque. Green light put the game in front of me so if this game got enough votes to get through, others with similar qualities will to.

@Neeble. Graves! never thought of that... Thanks. (1 mass grave for my slaves. If it don't work, perhaps I'll hop in the code and make it work.)

@thunderwkr... I think there is more text in your review then then code to make Towns. XD

@Envizion Revelations. As awesome as that is. Its the missing development schedule that rubs me raw for Towns. If there is one I would love to put my eyes on it.

Yeah it sucks that Greenlight will be letting games like this through- incomplete.

The graves thing is still problematic as your townies have to go get the remains to put them in the grave. If the remains are in a dangerous area, then oh well you are sending your townies one by one to their deaths.

I know its a wall of text. I am trying to make sure people read and post because it is a very thorough review and has helped a ton of people when considering to purchase the game. It outlines all you have stated and much much more.

No dev schedule and no dev update thread. We only heard back about the upcoming patch nearly 4 weeks after release and nothing since. They do not seem very organized at all, and this is a problem when your customers are expecting updates that you promised them.

You do have soldiers, right? And you did equip them with some stuff, correct? Send a patrol of however many you need down to the corpse and cover it until your civilian townie gets down there and deals with it.

Hmmm, my townies are equally equipt as my soldiers. They should be able to handle themselves, but they get killed and then an unarmed one comes in and kills the beast.

I guess your equiped towny must have really softened it up for the other guy.

Maybe or maybe not, who knows? Could have sworn you could check on the health of a creature... And I agree with Zorlond's approach. A quick draft, a well placed patrol point, and body secured. Off to make a nice lizard tomb.
