Cant seem to build Tongs

Hey as the title says i have found some iron and want to well get creating of iron items but i cant seem to make tongs. I have iron and wood and the bench it needs but ? also have the stone hammers that are in stocks.

I even bough 2 anvils from the traders but they wont use them it seems to think there not well there:S?

it seems the iron isnt in my stock pile even tho it says 36 as i cant see it in any barrels or in stock pile area :s but i cant get the little buggers to go collect it :S

yep i changed all my barrel stock piles to iron only and finally they went to get it all :D

they definely lazy all they seem to wish to do is eat sleep eat sleep suprise they dont need toilets also and there happiness is always low even when nice items around and good beds and barely doing anything and eating all the foooooooood :S

turns out they get happier if they only have one job, i was currious why soldiers always have 100 happiness and i tried on one townie, made his only job to build walls/roofs and his happiness went up to 85 and he doesnt have a legit room yet

Soldiers always have 100 happiness because they're almost always idleing. It's the lack of work that improves someones happiness over time, not having only one job to do. That correlation likely results from those townies having plenty of downtime due to that one job not being required 100% of the time. Decorations also help of course, as well as food variety and fishing.

build up gaint stores of food and tell them to be lazy(no order commands)

Exactly, it's one of the more annoying issues with the game since it creates a situation where the fastest way to grow your population is to simply stop doing anything for a while which makes for extended periods of boredom while you wait for immigrants. Fortunately there are ways around it like what I listed previously.

If you want to maximize happiness for your townies no matter what they're doing then you can fill every area of the map a townie might travel through with decorations. I'm pretty sure they take decorations in their travel route and worksites into account for their happiness so you don't have to place them only where the townies idle.

I line the walkways between bulidings with flowers and shrubs and stuff... as well as the previously mentioned happiness interventions. I can generally have them all working and still get immigrants. I should note this is usually 50+ townies. Sometimes when the population is low and I am impatient I will conscript everyone for about 5 minutes and some more people will come.
