What do they do actually? Can't find any information on the wiki and googling it in general turns out to be very frustrating. I am guessing that it has something to do with water buckets? And they have to be placed near water. But then I could just get the water from the stream/lake so that would make the well useless?

From what I have seen the wells and wooden buckets go together to make buckets of water that are then used to make the various soups and stews instead of using up all your milk supplies. Not sure how close to water it actually has to be though. I usually put it next to my bamboo and sugarcane farm since I use irrigation canals anyway. Also I usually line the outer canals with fishing chairs for a compact farm and fishing area.

At the risk of destroying nearby items, you can use the 'add fluids' right-click command to dump water next to the well, which will permanently (?) fill the well. I try and do this on a square two away from the well (and other objects) so the added water doesn't wash away anything in the area.

I wish the townies would use buckets of water to fill the pond tiles (external decoration item), because adding water to an elaborate pond system is kind of aggravating when decorations get washed away.

The well says "good for beer" does this mean in further updates they might add breweries and beer for the tavern? that would be cool. Also the well came out last update so it only is used for buckets of water.
I still think Towns should have a day/night and a weather system. If they add the weather system, they would have to add fire so when lightning strikes it creates fire, also rain might create water puddles. Towns definitly needs those

I dig a hole, put a dock (decoration) in it, fill the hole with water, and put the well on the dock. The water doesn't wash away the dock so the well stays full.
