Towns
Steam Tags
I knew before i went to the store page for towns that one of the tags would be scam...LOL. Along with Warz / infestation survivor stories.

I'm liking the Tags system so far and hope it works out. In the FAQ for developer section, it seems to indicate, without stating it plainly, that if the community views a game differently than the developer, the community placed Tags will remain in place.

By the way, I didn't use Scam, but I did use Unfinished, Broken, and Disreputable.

Apparently far mor people used Scam since that's the one that's visible without clicking the +. I haven't tried the tags yet but I do find it hillarious that so many tags of that nature have already been attached to Towns.

I'm sure that is much easier to some people to sum up the situation, but I don't quite feel Towns qualifies as a scam. The War Z was a scam. They saw the popularity of Day Z and said "Hey, let's make a knock of, pay to win, complete rip off real money store and cash in on their popularity."

I believe Xavi intended to make a game he thought would be fun. He just didn't have the skill, self-discipline or integrity required to see it through.

Unfortunately it seems that Xavi gave up on the game before he launched it on Steam. He considered it finished because he wanted to stop developing it, launching on Steam was supposed to be the end of it or something.

I can see how people would consider that a scam, considering the state the game was in... The bugfixes since then have been good, but the changed game mechanics have only made things worse because Xavi obviously had no interest whatsoever in making them work.

Anyway, this tag system looks like it'll be a good thing, now if only we could also remove the tags that the developer has set ... since this game isn't rpg or strategy.
Maybe give it a Not Strategy and Not RPG tag? If it catches on, it will stick to the game.
Does everyone see a different tag or? I see this tags for it:
Will Never Be Finished, Indie, Simulation

ragnar, ooooh! that's what I see right now as well, the tags have updated! Fantastic :D

This is exactly how it should work. But it'll probably be finetuned later so the tags will keep changing for a few days...
I imagine as the tags come in, and get "votes" they will rise to the top In the beginning it won't take many people using the same tag to get it on the store page, ultimately, only tags with a LOT of support will be visible on store page.

Not sure but EVERYONE needs to tag it with as many versions of "Will Never Be Finished" as they see. I know I have as well as "Scam".

... and if you really want to increase the chances of those types of words appearing first, do not select the other words (like indie, simulation, etc.) as they all compete.

I'd still recommend you all to pick the sandbox tag anyway, because that actually describes the game and its genre better than the game description does.
While I agree that is accurate, muzzy, I think it's more important to let people know it is an unfinished product.

Steam will be tuning their algorithms and they might use games with negative reputation such as Towns as part of the data they examine. I don't want them to get the idea that perhaps they can try to recognize people who aren't tagging honestly and then devalue their tags to get more accurate results.

The tag relationship graphs shouldn't be clustered, they should overlap. Otherwise there's a risk they'll set up a mechanism to just nuke the less isolated cluster of "non-descriptive" negative tags.

Another thing you should do: use tags that are used in other games, and tag other games with tags you use for Towns. Go find all games that are unfinished even though they claim to be finished and tag them. This will increase the legitimacy of the tag, in case they'll try to devalue tags that are specific to just one game.
I'd say unfinished is pretty descriptive.

As for the use of same tags in multiple games, been doing that as much as I can when appropriate.

Are your fears pure speculation or do you have some info that didn't make the FAQ page?
