Reality check on the Update (Lack there of)
Unfortunately either you wont see one, or it will take a very long time.

The huge lack of information given by the developers is worrying, and in my opinion the hype behind this game has faded. It remains a classic warning of paying into unfinished games. I really wish this wasn't the case, I loved Towns.

I bought into Towns years ago now it seems, one of the first few to do so! There was a real core within the community, the forums were very active and so were the devs, updates happened frequently and there always seemed to be good communication. However, from the very beginning it was clear to see that the developers had issues, around the time I paid into the original alpha, one of the team left because of disagreements the path of the game was taking, this is fair enough of course but it highlights crucial problems with the games development. As the game got onto Steam instead of development picking up and the community being more alive than it ever had been, further decline and that is probably because the those originally so hyped about the game all those years ago had moved on.

I still play towns occasionally, and it still has many issues, to call it finished is fascicle, this is okay if it is still being developed but right now it isn't. I don't know why (which is part of the problem, if development stops then you should tell your customers, your community why) but I doubt it is for lack of a coder, they are not in short supply by any means. I don't want to say that the developers have made their money and run, I hope they haven't, because this game had some real potential.

With no updates since September last year,it is hard to think that this is going to go any further.

The hair that broke the camels back for me was when my account of the forums was deleted, along with a post I had made. Gnomoria had just been released into alpha and I wrote an article on it suggesting that people who enjoyed Towns and Dwarf Fortress might also really enjoy this new game and should check it out, I didn't slant Towns in any way, but I presume that for whatever reason someone didn't like Gnomoria being talked about on the forums, which I found so disheartening.

If we have learnt anything from the growth of indi games, those that thrive don't just build good games, they manage a good business. You make sure you're organised and have direction, you keep up the passe and momentum of your community and you always keep good communication.

BUT, do not fear! It is only a matter of time until someone else picks up the torch and carries on with this specific genre :)

I like TB, but he should check for info when doing things like this, because thing he said in the video is actually not correct, except the state in witch towns was released. The game was never in early access, it was only green light, and last bigger update did not happen in april but in september. Other than that he is right more or less.

Also what scandal is he talking about rust? Can not find anything on steam forum

If you followed the development of Towns from the very beggining, you'll know that it has never been properly released, non of the developers have ever called it finished. It clearly isn't a finished game when you play it, many of us who purchased it years back, bought it under the impression it was indeed an early-access game in need of support.

As with Rust, I have no idea actually ...

I got the game also before it was released on steam. TB is talking about early access game on steam, witch was not available when towns was released on steam. He is not talking about sells on towns main site, but on steam. Where he is not correct, as towns never went through steam early access

So the game has been finished? Maybe it should have been released as early access, it might have got more of a following on steam that way.

It should be in early access games on steam. The game is not finished, but it is a released game. You can have unfinished released games like this one, and the reason for so much negativity is actually because it is released. Because released game should be finished and complete games.

One update in what - is it a year or more now.
Two things spring to mind..

"Dead game is dead"
and
"Broken promises were broken"

Does put a sour taste regarding backing any other Greenlight or Kickstarter games

According to one of the developers, the main person running the show on Towns is making some kind of annoucement in the next few days ...

towns came out before there was an eirly access, and total biscuts rant was about unfinshed games, what eirly access is, but only refering to early access because really towns and i think warz were the only clearly unfinished games put on steam before eirly access was implemented.

as for towns, i got my moneys worth, if it finishes i would like it, but i found severe problems and a ui that i just dont like much. relying on hero units that you cant controll to equip the good things you make... that is where i quit when i had a full set of gold but the heros went into the doungeons with crap and refused to equip better gear.

It still existed during the period of beta releases. Don't Starve was released as that. So you cant say that they couldnt put it out as that, because options existed they just didnt take them.

the video said april, apparently game got updated in september
it was greenlit, but came to steam BEFORE early access strated.
shoudl it be moved there, yes.

i could be worng on eirly accesss and when it started, but im fairly sure people were complaining for a disclaimer that said "THIS IS BETA/ALPHA" on the game, which implies it came to steam before early access started.
