SMP has abandoned the community
They have found a new programmer, but aren't telling us about it here. Burningpet posted about the new programmer being found on the bay12 forums, how can he justify breaking the news there while staying quiet in the official forums?

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=86568.msg4944624#msg4944624

They've already said the new programmer will receive peace and quiet, so they won't be asking the new guy to participate on the forums. At the same time they themselves aren't the slightest bit interested in coming to the forums to tell what's going on.

Thus it seems they have abandoned the community. 100% completely. Now they'll just keep the product alive to maintain the money flow... Reeking of a rip off yet?

PS. You can also see burningpet actively promoting their new game Dwelvers, SMP has moved on and they aren't interested in Towns anymore. The community is dead and they have no interest in nurturing it back to life.

There was even an announcement about this a year ago after the Steam launch. The developers clearly stated this is not an alpha or a beta. The "beta testing" was done in one week before the launch on Steam.

I hope Dwelvers fully understands they made a deal with the devil accepting SMP into their ranks.

I'm not sure that's any more true than if they had signed on with any other publisher like EA/Activision. Sometimes people have to make deals with devils to do what they want to do...

From the link you posted -
"Burningpet :We were supposed to come with an announcement already. as to why didn't we, its because i am waiting for xavi to make it, as he should"

Nothing has been announced, he's waiting for Xavi.

It's funny how he can casually tell the news on another forum, but can't tell it here or Towns forum. It's obvious he's intentionally avoiding telling anything on the Towns forums if he's okay talking about it on bay12...

I don't think any Programmer will be able to salvage this mess. He's better off building his own game from scratch and finishing it in his basement. I gave SMP just enough slack with the communication last month to hang themselves in my eyes.

I want this game finished. I'd love to have a final product, EVEN OPEN SOURCE, in which I can play all day. I really liked this game last year. But see how they are handling things, the way the fourms are practally abandoned besides the "chosen" few, or that they STILL intend to make money. They lost what little hope I got back. This product is dead in the water and I'd gladly sell it for pennies on the dollar to remove it from my steam list.

Further evidence: Even burningpet doesn't have moderator privileges on the official Towns forums, while Xavi is intentionally avoiding them. This means no paid staff is working on the forums at all. Only one unpaid volunteer has moderator privileges.

What does it tell about a company when it has made MILLIONS OF DOLLARS, and yet the forums on their official website are managed by one third party for free? I've seen companies like this before and they've all been ran by crooks. Usually the goal has been to pump up some hype and sell the company and its intellectual property to some stupid investor or another company for quick profit. Maybe that was the goal all along but Xavi's plan fell through and nobody wanted to buy SMP.

You are ignorant.

If you wanted to do a little research, you would find a statement posted by the devs quite some time ago stating they have sold over $2 million gross. That was several sales ago, so the figure is surely larger now. Some sales have come from their own site, but it's safe to assume that most sales come from digital distribution sites, Steam being the primary. The general cut for those sites is 30%. So, at the time of that announcement they had around $1.4 million+ and since then no released figures, but we all know that Steam sales are a windfall for the developers and they have probably made a lot more since then.

Yea, I didn't pull the number from my hat, see burningpet's post Towns - Yesterday, now and "Tomorrow"[www.townsgame.com], in which he says:

So so far Towns has sold more than 200k units and generated a gross revenue of more than 2M usd. and although we are pretty sure we can and will sell a lot more, we still see it as a huge success.

This post was made on 7-29-13. Since that post Towns has been on sale 5 times. There was also a sale just before that post that ended on 7-22 and it is not clear if that sales revenue was included in the summary. Either way, they have made a lot of money by selling a partial game in a misleading manner.
