Towns v14e Released - a small "stealth" update
The thread on the official forums: http://www.townsgame.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11604

The change notes: http://www.townsgame.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1420

This patch adds two "quality of life" improvements for players. Firstly, the female townie death scream and the rooster crowing sound have been made less ear-piercing. Secodnly, barrels have also recieved a major improvement; they can now be managed as a group.

This update doesn't replace v15, the decision was made to add these improvements ASAP rather than delaying them for the next major patch.

So the devs ARE back with developing? I bought the game a while ago, and I was told it was dead and the devs ran with the money.

Apparently they ran to the coffee shop and got wrapped up in karaoke for a while. (just kidding... or am I?) Anyway, they are working on it, they are just taking their time about it.

Good stuff. Small patch, but lots of small patches are better than no patches at all!

from my understanding, the origional dev stopped and highred a 3rd party and gave the third party a nice deal... if they recieved the deal eirly on... they didnt.

what i would like to know, there are little things here and there that improve the game, can someone deving this explain the current... is enviorment the right word?

should we ever expect anything major or will it just be monor from here on?

and in case its asked, i was an early buyer and knew damn well what i was buying into, i got my enjoyment out of the game and probably wont come back to it till thereare are major changes or a few years pass and i get a craveing.

The game has entered a sort of "hold state" several times now where the devs stopped releasing patches for an extended period of time. You likely bought the game during one of those. They are currently working on the game again though.

It's my understanding that they weren't planning to do any huge updates going forward. Xavi started working on the game again after the new guy he hired quit and the company he tried to sell it to backed out but at the time he said it was going to be at a much slower pace.

I don't know where people have been hiding, its been stated many times in both here and in the official forums that Tows development is still active. (True not as active as some people think it should be but that's always the case)

Xavi didn't TRY to sell it, THEY approached Xavi to by it. and then THEY backed out, Xavi never approached anyone.

Well, if he considered accepting the offer and they backed out of the deal before he did that still sounds like trying to sell it to me.

That being said, fair point. It wasn't my intention to imply that he had gone out of his way to sell the game but I can see how that wording could be interpreted as such.

I figure that most people that got the game gave up on it when the development stopped and are just now poking their heads in again because they noticed the latest update in the downloads list.

Edit to add this link from the steam game page to explain why most think that development stopped. With this on the steam page for the game most people probably took it as the official end all announcement, and the update came out of the blue for them.

Frankly, the first part of what you were told is arguable/moot (in other words, people will be able to provide evidence for both sides and there's no clear answer); the second half of that statement is utterly incorrect though.

Which is a perfect case of why people shouldn't extrapolate their beliefs into statements... because as we (a more general "we" here, "we the community") can see, the "ran off with the money" statement DID, in fact, take root even though it was groundless. Not pinning blame on any particualr person there; just tying it back to an (ongoing) discussion point.

Or to say that in other words: it's important to separate facts (game development was put on hold) from speculation and belief, so that other people don't get the wrong information.

Anyway, to get back to the important topic of what really is going on: the orignal two developers, Ben (Burningpet) and Xavi (Supermalparit) are working on v15, the plan at this stage is to re-work the animal farming and add to the tutorials with the goal of adding a story campaign. There are no firm plans for major changes past v15; but at the same time there really isn't much of an announced plan at all. What we do have is a commitment from the Devs that they'll at least have a go at making Towns into the game they envisioned early on.

i cant remember the last version that i plated the game at, but the issue that made me quit more than anything else was heros were stupid beyond redemption. i made a full set of gold armor, i think it was the best you could get at the time, and they never put it on or did anything with it.

was this ever changed?
are you able to make them pick up items or not?

and if you are not, would a system to "gift" an item ot a hero, lets say have a villager outright give the hero the item, be out of the question?

The short answer is: yes, they are much smarter about gear now; if they see any on the ground then picking it up will override all other jobs except eating, sleeping, and fleeing for their lives. Or, in other words, if you leave equipment in the tavern or in the heroes' personal rooms, or anywhere else they walk past; then they will pick equip it on their way to the dungeon.

As for giving gifts; I don't know of any plans for that... it's something that the Devs have considered, it probably was part of the original vision for the game (or at least some kind of quest-like system where you encourage the heroes to be more active); but while we all want to see it in the game I can't say whether it will happen. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's not impossible; I just wouldn't say it's something to expect at this point.

My wishful thinking for the heroes would be a set of shops for the heroes to go to. They go to a counter, a townie swings by to take the order, and then the townie runs off to the inventory to pick up the item to drop for the hero to equip. You cold have all the usual shops. Alchemy shop for the poisons, weapon and armor shop, and maybe a food shop so they stop mooching dinner every night. And perhaps a bounty system. Bring in one critter head, get some coin or a voucher for one free sword at crazy suzie's all blade emporium (and snack bar).

Like i said, just wishful thinking. Heroes need to wait until those blasted farm critters are figured out. We finally get them to stop reproducing like rabbits and wind up with the entire town feeding them. Definitely need to get that balanced out.

+1 you legend YetiChow.

Dunno why people have such a vendetta against this game even in the mainstream media, a 3D variant on the DungeonTown game by Kairosoft is so niche-tastic it's epic (Just like DK and DK2).

Et al, all I'd like to get across to the dev and other players here is that sometimes you have to forge ahead against the flow to get wonderful things done so thank you all!

the reason is a complete lack of communication.
the game got sold pre early access as what was essentially an early access game, and people failed to do a quick google search to see what the game was, and didn't know it wasnt finished.

than (and here comes my craptastic memory and what i read from other places)

the devs screwed off,
got a new dev
dev was to underpaid to do the work
abandoned

but than things like this happen where we get a new content update...
up till this thread we couldn't even get a "yea we are deving it" leading most to assume the devs ran to mexico with the money.

i personally never defend this game, i got my moneys worth, and say what i think of the game, but i also call anyone who bought it based on screenshots a ♥♥♥♥♥♥, seriously, you have the internet right god damn there, google is almost impossible to mispel, google "towns game" and look up gameplay and people giving their impressions, takes all of 5 minutes, and see what version they were playing and what version the game is now mixed with when the video was made and bam, would have saved yourself the money if you didn't like it...

i really hate stupid people who need steam to be their ♥♥♥♥ing mom.

Should I tell him that google is actually a misspelling of googol according to the company itself? Not trying to be cute, just tossing in some trivia for fun.
