Placeable Structures... Worth it?
I was wondering if people think they are generally worth it or not. Recently, someone reccomended the Beehouse to me, but at $20,000 to purchase, and $30, that gives only $720 a day, and takes 28ish days to pay back (Total cost with maintence before profit being around $20224). So I ask, why does everyone reccomend them to people who are starting? To me, at least, it would seem smarter to invest that money in a second seeder, better tractor, or pretty much anything that's not going to take you almost an in-game month to pay itself off.

Now, if I have this wrong, let me know, but from what I see, none of the placeable structures have the payout necessary to make them worth anything except something extra to do at endgame.

I have a few beehouses and solar panels. They are not the most profitable activities, but there are a few good things to consider:

1. They dont require any work from you. You place them and that is it. You get income without having to do anything.
2. The way I play is that I try to store all my harvests in the silos until a great demand comes up. But while i am farming, i incur costs and get no income. However with a few beehouses and solar panels I manage to stay about even, and then when the great demand comes I get a lot of income.

If you want to lose enjoyment quickly, use structures.

Ran a test last night. Had 4.9m raised the hard way. Sold 8m worth of tractors/tools etc, bought 10 windmills and went 120x. Hour later bought 5 or so more. Hour later 10 or so more. By bed time I had made 25m plus and I was watching TV while it happened.

Ran it overnight and had so much money that if Canola had gone $10,000 a KILO I wouldn't have bothered.

Save your FS2013 - DO NOT use placeable structures.

I use a couple of beehives and 2 solar panels. They pay nicely for the vehicles I have running, so I don't have to bother with running costs.

Maverick took it to the extreme but if you just buy a couple of placeables when the money allows they can net you a nice extra income. Also remember that the greenhouses need water and manure, so only start those if you have a couple of cows running around (read somewhere for manure: 10 cows per greenhouse).

So basically, if you want something where you don't have to play the game to make money structres are great, otherwise, they are good for offsetting costs?

Old wise saying. "Best way to offset costs is to not incur them".

Consider, if you place structures and do not incur costs then you're in fact making profit from structures. It's all relative and will depend on whether your farm accountant is a pessimist or an optimist :)

All I'm sayin' is that you can strive real hard to get structures and when you can, they sorta defeat the purpose of playing to make money.

Bit like winning the lotto the day before you cash in that super you've just spent your whole working life accumulating...
