Autosave DOESN'T SAVE!??
I just got Far Cry 3 two days ago. When I play the Story, it says that it saves at checkpoints, but it doesn't. Everytime I die, I have to start all over. If I click Continue, it starts at the beginning. If I click Load, only the first Autosave is there, and it also starts at the beginning.

Is there a fix for this Steam version for this? Help!

The save system is a bit odd with FC3. When you die you return to the nearest safehouse/liberated outpost/deactivated radio tower. But, all of your loot should be retained from your last save. During a mission you cannot save manually. Once you get to the point of being able to free roam, you can save as often as you like (always saving over your one slot). But, even if you save and quit, when you re-load you will be back at the nearest safe location. But, any loot that you acquired while roaming should still be there as of your last manual save.

It does make for some frustrating times traveling. But, I recommend planning routes from one outpost to another so that you have more re-spawn points. Then you can focus your free roaming around those points and build out.

I dont know how far into the game you have gotten yet also, but there is a good hour long "training session" at the beginning, during which if you try to save and then reload you begin all over at the very start.

Yeah the begining is annoying. Not looking forward to those training wheels again on a re-run if I do it.

Note while playing you can use F9 to save (non auto save) at any time any where during the open world game. You just can't save with F9 during missions or inside the poker huts. Using F9 can be very effective.

Thanks guys, that's what I needed to know. I suck at FPS and die all the time. I have only gotten as far as climbing through that tunnel and the guy stabs me, so I am probably not far enough to get any saves.

it says to press Mash the Spacebar to Melee or something, but I do it and die every time. Do I mash like I'm mashing potatos? That's kinda slow. 5 times a second? 50?

For those it wants you to repeatedly press it as fast as you can.

I suggest changing the default control configuration to make it be exactly what you want, and especially replacing space bar with another key that's easier to press faster without damaging the key.

When it says "mash (button name)" it means you have to hit the mentioned button repeteadly, the fastest you can, until the action is over.

Like Blood said, you might want to change the controller config...set it to default, it's really the best way to play.

Btw dude...do you play WASD, or do you use the arrow keys to move?

I use WASD, and I also have key commands assigned to the 7 commands set on my Logitech MX1000 mouse. Wish I could use my TrackIR to look around as I am moving with WASD. But it appears TrackIR is not supported. I used TIR in another FPS a while ago and it worked pretty good as long as you can remember which direction is front looking.

Thanks for the clarification on the save at the beginning. I think it's pretty stupid but at least now I know I have to set aside enough time to make it through the entire intro in one sitting so I can actually earn the right to save.
