Invalid CD-Key?
I bought this game on steam like 3 or so days ago, installed it and when I go to activate it in uplay I get an invalid cd key error. Yes I typed it in correctly, yes it's in all caps. I even called ubisoft and they said the key was valid on the phone. By the way anyone wondering, ubisoft support is of absolutely no help at all, the rep made my restart uplay twice and enter my code about 4-5 times and says "don't worry sir, everyone who has had this problem has gotten it fixed and been able to play". Next he tells me to update my graphics drivers... what is that going to do? Make the uplay security work properly? Anyways they were up to date already so he says well I'm all out of ideas but here is a download that should fix the problem and I go oh that sounds good and he emails it to me and asks if I got it and I say yeah i got the email and he just goes. "ok have a nice day" *click* and the links to fix my problem were just old updates for c++ why I don't know it was c++ 2010 and I apparently already have a newer version.

So with ubisoft support being completely useless I am just trying to find out if anyone else is having an invalid cd key issue with a steam key and how they fixed it. Sorry for going on a rant in mid post but whatever lol.

Also, when I launch FC3 from steam I just get the cd key to copy but I have to launch uplay manually. I am running windows 8 64-bit as well.

^^ and that's why it's not working.

Ubisoft decided to force those who bought it through Steam to only be able to use it if Steam launches UPlay... period.

You can't manually launch either binary, or the client. Steam has to launch it. When uplay account is working correctly and when Steam launches uplay correctly, it'll automatically be registered "for that instance" and you can play, but it won't create perm registration of the game...

ahhhh why ubisoft, why did they have to be so stubborn, forcing uplay upon their customers. It's not going to catch on, most everyone hates it.

I was able to get steam to launch uplay but only if I boot in safe boot networking, that also makes the code work like you said but now I can't use my monitor because I'm in safe boot mode and when I try to launch using my laptop's screen it says can't detect graphics software or something along those lines. So now I can activate the code but like you said it doesn't save on my profile just through steam so I can't just go back to normal and play that would just be too easy. Do you know any way around this problem? I don't know too much about safe booting but it sounds like most drivers are disabled so while I'm in safe mode I can't use my monitor at all or get farcry to detect my laptop's display.

Are you kidding me I had no idea so I tried it out yeah my Far Cry 3 doesnt show up in the games part of Uplay unless I launch it in steam. Now that is dumb as hell.

I found a solution in another thread that worked for me finally!

Create shortcut to Farcry3.exe manually. (located in steam / steamapps / common )

Append -uplay_steam_mode -language=English -steam_mode AFTER the quotes on the shortcut

Run that shortcut, with steam open, with uPlay installed

Now uPlay will see Farcry3 and accept Steam cdkey

From now on you can play from uPlay

OMG PLEASE HELP. I have been looking for solutions for ages. I launch the game, log into Uplay with my steam email, and then it demands for a cd-key and it denies it stating it has been used before. I used the shortcut method but that changed nothing. I really want to enjoy Far Cry 3 like I did before. Only one of my emails are associated with Uplay.
