Missing executable error Far Cry 3 *FIX*
Hey guys!
I have been playing Far Cry 3 for about 22 hours now, up until this moment, when I try to launch the game I get an error message saying: Failed to start game (Missing executable) And indeed, when I go into steamapps - common- Far Cry 3 almost all the files are missing! The bin folder has nothing but a ''pb'' folder with some pb dll's, pb .dat and a few pb .cfg files .
data_win32 only has a folder called ''engine'' in it, then ''shaders'' then ''obj11''.
The folder ''soundtrack'' does have the soundtrack in it.
And then there is a support folder with the readme and Manual.
Lastly there is the Far Cry 3 survival guide, and an ''installscript.vdf''.
All of these files add up to 212 MB.
I have tried verifying integrity of game cache with no results, I've also uninstalled and re-installed but all that does is download the 212 MB worth of files again. I've searched forums, but nobody seems to have a solution to this problem. Hope I find it here.

Found a fix.
Go into the drive where you installed Steam, then go to Steamapps, common and find your Far Cry 3 folder e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\Far Cry 3 remove the Far Cry 3 folder completely. (Don't worry, your savegames are stored in My Games.) Then make a backup of the whole steamapps folder. Next up delete everything in the ''steam'' folder except for Steam.exe. Launch Steam.exe and Steam will install again, follow all the neccesary steps. Then log in, and install Far Cry 3. Problem solved. If you want your other games back, wait until Far Cry 3 has finished installing and place your steamapps folder back in your Steam folder. Merge the files. Restart Steam and voila.

I had this exact same issue with the game RACE ROOM EXPERIENCE, I can confirm that the above method worked for me seamlessly.

Thank you

Do you know if this works with other games? I have tried with Team Fortress 2 but i might have done it wrong.

Is there a solution that doesn't include massive amounts of time and deleting most of my Steam folder?

Not that I know of. This is a really odd problem as even deleting and reinstalling the game doesn't fix the problem and just downloads half a game. At the time of writing I was pretty much done trying anything else and decided to go for the 'all is lost' approach.
