@OP: Look up hyperedit.
Y'know, that is a great observation.
However, I do this a lot too. And while I can definitely see the draw in equipping yourself to ditch out and save a pilot if something terrible happens, and just going for it, you gotta say that testing and tweaking that escape module (for example) might just be a good idea before taking to the skies. I just take that as a good idea in lots of situations, to confirm base concepts and designs especially, to make sure that things won't catastrophically fail immediately due to some small oversight and cost some poor Kerbonaut his little life... :P
Gotta say though, testing out a design that works on the first shot is always exhilerating.
So, to me anyway, taking the core concept and design of something like an interplanetary cruiser that will be built in orbit and never experience a glimmer of atmosphere (except maybe in a very rare and anxiety producing aerobrake meneuver) and being able to put it in space with something like Hyperedit and ensure that a full burn won't just cause it to distentigrate and send itself cascading into the planet over an area of several hundred thousand square miles... That's a good thing to be able to do.
BUT...
I would like a way to automate with game, not with a mod a milk run flight. For instance after X number of successful flights the ability to automate the flight. Like sending fuel to a station sort of thing. If the pay load is exactly the same as well as the ship it does get old having to make routine runs. Better still, an unlock in the career mod as an option.....
But quick travel? No. Please no... How could you experience the joy of slamming into space garbage after 100's of flights? =)
