Atmospheric pressure survey missions
Hi everyone,

There is a mission in the Campaign which is causing me so much trouble when I feel like it shouldn't be that hard. This mission is to take atmospheric pressure readings near the North pole of Kerbin, altitudes varying above and below 16-18km. I cannot figure out how to get something there over there to do it. Just using a plane means it would take a few hours to fly there from KSC (with the amount of time I've spent doing this now maybe I should have just done that, though it wouldn't help for high altitude objectives). I've also tried attaching a plane to a rocket and sending it over via orbit but this always come in too hot and burns up on re entry. Any ideas? Am I missing something or is this mission just not worth the effort?

Thanks.

IMO these type of missions are just not worth the effort.

That being said a simple sub-orbital craft should do the trick just fine. Just remeber to keep your angle of re-entry shallow and use a heatshield.

i completly agree with SydKhaos

but one way to get their with planes is to make sure your COL (center of lift) is fairly behind your
COM (center of mass) then just time warp with SAS

and to also make sure that you have alot of fuel

Those missions my nop pay enough, but I love them since I love building and flying planes.
And with a plane that can go mach 4 you only need 20min to the northpole.

SydKhaos, wouldn't there be an issue with the heatshield in that it doesn't protect the wings? It only protects quite a small cross sectional area going into the atmosphere.
