German beta access
Hallo Leute!

Sorry. Despite all classes in highschool, my German is just terrible. Luckily, we have our good friend and point&click enthusiast Thomas Faust ( http://indiegametranslations.com/) helping us out and he has just finished the German translation of The Journey Down: Chapter One.

We need some help from native German speakers to test the new translated beta version. If you want to give it a shot, right click The Journey Down: Chapter One in the Steam Library and click Properties. Go to the Beta-tab and enter code 'captainkaonandodo' to unlock the Beta branch in the drop down. Once you've switched to the Beta branch there and waited for the download to finish you can play the latest build through Steam.

The beta is available for windows and mac. Linux will come later.
UPDATE: Linux version is now available too.

Please report any language or technical issues that you run into!

Vielen Dank! :)

-- UPDATE 10 January 2017 --

The beta has been updated with a whole bunch of little patches today. If you care to give the beta a try, out I'd really appreciate if you report any technical or language problems in this thread.

Thanks!!

Wonder what is your translation mechanism? I mean, like The Last Door, another indie game there is. It has a translation system enabling persons who can translate English into other language to do the translation work easily. The translation all goes to the subtitles (Just the subtitles need the translation.) Thus I wonder, what do we have to do to make more kind of lauguages possible? Like your game BTW. :wrenchit:

I guess it's far too late now, sorry I did not look for it earlier. Anyway, the translation feels in-elegant in places, and lots of German "informal you" (Du) is used where the "formal one" (Sie) would be appropriate.

Also, at one point the translation made it sound like you implemented a hotspot button (by clicking/holding the mouse button and dragging it). Hm.

I'd say it's serviceable, I'll keep playing in English, though.

Hi Kingstone,

thank you for the translation. I will play the game in German and report any issues.

Is this thread to suggest ideas or just to inform about bugs? I just suggesting something if I have to e-mail the translator directly please add this up in the thread ;) And as Hobby Translator for other games, i can tell he did a really good job, i just miss the german voice acting

Hi everyone! Translator here. Thanks for the feedback, it's really appreciated.

Now, regarding the "inelegant" modes of address: this was a conscious decision. I thought it would be very fitting for Bwana to use the informal address regardless of whom he speaks to, because that's just very... Bwana, I guess? I had to make some concessions to the way he speaks elsewhere, so I thought the address thing would establish his character as laid-back and friendly. (Exception: when he first meets Lina he *tries* to be the perfect gentleman and then later slips up and falls back into his usual speech pattern). In general, most characters in the game are speaking informal, because it really fits the mood of the game.

Keep the feedback coming, and I hope you enjoy the game in German!

Hope you overthought my suggestions, will there be an other beta update? It's already June or is it official now? I somehow lost track...

I still have to implement your suggestions, sorry. Been quite busy and I was also waiting for more feedback. I'll send the updated translation to the developers in the next few days!

Please, please, please ... I would also offer time to translate/check the german texts (I'm german).

Well, the beta branch is open to everyone. Not quite sure if Skygoblin updated the translation by now, so if you encounter any issues that have already been reported above, they might have been fixed in the meantime. Have fun hunting for those bugs!

Translation still not updated yet, Chapter two missing as well. Guess they're fighting with Chapter 3 right now

Hey guys! I just uploaded a new beta today with lots of small changes to the engine. We put a lot of effort into fixing the video player so the audio/video should be synced at all times during the cutscenes. I've also uploaded a German-language beta for Chapter Two now.

Please let me know if the new beta is working for you and if you find any bugs or language issues!

Update: The new german beta version is now also available for linux.

Hmm. What about my German language check? Erased? Not good. So i can not check the changes. Want to play the Game again.
