Game freezes and crashes
I'm having some serious issues with playing the game. After about a minute or two of playing, everything freezes, the sound loops, the screen turns black, and I can't do anything. It's most likely not an issue with my computer, as I can play Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Civilization 5, COD 4, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, etc. perfectly fine with no such issues.
Also, it seems that the hardware DirectX version in the options menu is stuck at 9.0, though I have version 11 on my computer. Might that be a possible cause, and how could I fix this? I can provide additional information if needed. Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, I have defragged the game and lowered the graphics settings, this hasn't seemed to do anything.

I have an HP Envy 17 3D with an i7 Q 720 at 1.6 GHz (4 cores), an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850, and running Windows 7 SP 1. The driver that I use is AMD Catalyst.

My game do that, but only when i press the "windows" key or i want to alt+tab.
try running the game in windowed mode and no border by adding this to the lauch options
-window -noborder

also, Source will always run on dx9, you can't choose dx11 on Source games.
